Turning 21 in the MMP

Morning all. Closed the thread I opened in Politics about the events of the 6th–there were a couple things happening–so may have some time for normal discourse now. Need to get to the bank and the store this morning as rain is predicted for the afternoon. Good thing I put the garbage out last night, they were around at 8am today to pickup.

FCM, hope FCD has a safe trip and can help out parents (and maybe finally convince them to move North).

red, enjoy the half-day off.

shoe, nellie, boo, take it from an old history teacher–we’ve gotten through worse as a country–I think the foundation is still strong. But the next two weeks could be “interesting times” I grant you.

nut, good luck in squaring the circle with the bureaucrazys.

OK, need to shave and otherwise make myself presentable then off for the great January Food Trip. All y’all take care.

Yesterday was horrific. Also, I’m often disgusted by the politicians in Missouri, and have questioned my decision to live here. But even moreso last night, when Hawley insisted on protesting the electoral votes despite the shitstorm that went on in Washington. I don’t know why my jaw hit the floor when I saw the news, though. I mean, it’s one of those situations where you see the trainwreck coming but you manage to hope so hard you think it couldn’t possibly happen but then it does.

Today’s business is to work. Or try not to hit the refresh button too often on the news. Oh, and exercise. Gotta do that today sometime. I haven’t waddled or lifted a single extraneous weight since Sunday and that slow, steady throb has settled into my hips and left shoulder blade. If I don’t take care of it on the treadmill and with a solid post-waddle stretch it’ll grow down to my knees and start peaking around 11 p.m… The predictability is nice, but getting older still sucks.

Howdy Y’all! I am now in possession of the necessary things for the great clean out, except for Gatorade, which I will procure next week. Maybe the best deal on it will be the Dollah Sto’ just down the road. In other news, soup is simmerin’ away and smellin’ nummy. I shall keep myself away from news mostly throughout the day. I think that best for my overall mental and physical health.

Wordy does yoga help at all? It’s sorta-stretching and sorta-exercising at the same time.

My hips started hurting occasionally at work recently (getting old = sucks) and I discovered that settling comfortably into “Warrior Pose” for a half a minute or so on each side helped a lot. It’s difficult to stretch your hip joints in a publicly-acceptable way but those few seconds don’t attract attention the way a ballet arabesque (while enormously satisfying as a stretch) can.

You’re lucky. All three of the teachers I’d like to have as friends are long gone.

:frowning: I was still reading it…

40 and fair (wind chill 32) here; 41 and NOS predicted for this afternoon, 24 and clear tonight. Have breakfasted and lunched, but not caffeinated. A trip to the commissary is all I have planned for today.

FCD called an hour and some ago - he’s in SC. His mom called him in a dither because they want to get vaccines at Publix but the only way is via on-line appointments, which they have no idea how to do. I looked up their local stores and there are no appointments to be had right now. His folks are getting all worked up and there’s nothing anyone can do, especially since the Guv down there has abdicated any responsibility in dealing with the whole crisis.

I’m going to tread the mill for a while. Maybe some exertion will help clear my head. Or wear me out for a bit.

If you’re “watching” the thread, all you have to do is click on your notifications.

Herald, the thread is still there (all 1600+ posts of it), just no new posts can be added. read to your heart’s (or stomach’s) content.

FCM, any other sites for the vaccine near them? I almost hate to say it, but sound like our leadership here in Ali-bama is doing a better job than Florida in the whole COVID thing.

Have banked and shopped and put stuff away, so the afternoon is free. Cheeseburger has been grilled and consumed and a long, hot bath is somewhere on the agenda.

All y’all take care now.

I hope it settles down for you in the next few hours. Moving and settling into a new job is hard enough without all the extra nonsense you’re having to deal with. :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:for you

Mid-afternoon yesterday I lost my appetite. It still hasn’t returned. When I pass on soft tacos or Ming’s, you know it’s bad.

Agreed. It will be interesting indeed. But I’d like to be bored for awhile. Some stirring photos of Biden being sworn in. Both Obama’s singing “Amazing Grace” alongside of him and Dr. Biden marching down The Mall would be lovely. Biden, Harris joining Arlo Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen to belt out “This Land Is Your Land” on the Capitol Steps (damn, we need to reclaim those steps) would be just my speed.

{{{{{{ to all. We’re gonna need it}}}}}}}

In addition to reading it (which I did finish doing) I was writing a response to several of the posts I had read.

Old history is the best kind to teach.

Hmmm, that’s a good question. I don’t know. I’ve always avoided it because I’m not at all stretchy. Is that something that non-flexible people can do?

I like the idea of doing warrior pose. That seems like it would feel really good.

IME, eventually you get more stretchy when you do it on a regular basis. I need to drag the yoga mat out.

Off irk now and still attempting to limit being glued to news coverage (I totally feel ya wordy). I’m limiting it to 10 minutes an hour. Now to get the Thursday chores done so’s I can play in the studio.

FCD got them on the county’s health dept wait list, but they’re not content to wait. Like they have a choice… They’re just working themselves into a lather over it.

I’ve walked and then I went out to the office to print off some stuff. FCD should be in Jawja by now. And I guess I need to decide on supper. I’ve got a hankering for something really unhealthy, tho I should just make a salad. What to do, what to do…

Go for unhealthy and then come right back here and tell us about every bite.

BBBoo, you’re trying to lead me astray!! For shame!!!

I’m trying to live vicariously. The menu selections at your house are always better than at mine. And we’re all trying to catch up with the menu at swampy’s.

Second the motion!

Well, if I get something, I have to go for it because there’s no way I can make the minimum order amount without having tons of leftovers. And I don’t really know what I want. I had a can of soup and some chips for lunch. I’m tired of pizza and Chinese. I don’t think I want Mexican. And last time I got sushi, it was meh.

There aren’t a lot of options here in the boonies, especially this time of year when the good seafood place is closed till Feb. Dammit. Maybe I’ll just get a hot fudge sundae and be done with it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now yer talking!

Ok, did the warrior pose. It felt really good. Now I’ll be getting on fitness blender to see if they’ve got some beginner yoga I can do. My lower back is starting to get in on the throbbing - I’ve been sitting like a schlub all day - so the sooner I do something about it (and get back to being consistent), the better.
