I hadn’t checked the SDMB folder in my e-mail inbox since April. So I just deleted almost 9,000 messages.
I check my subscribed threads daily – actually much more than daily – so I don’t need e-mail notifications.
But I can’t figure out how to shut them off by default. If I have to choose that option for every single thread separately, it isn’t going to happen.
In my Control Panel on the Edit Options page, under Messaging & Notification, I have a box labeled “Default Thread Subscription Mode” which I have set to “No email notification”.

You’re welcome! I only recently figured out how to turn on email notifications for a particular subscribed thread, on the rare occasion that I want them. You have to do it from your UserCP on the “List Subscriptions” page.
Or you could just click on “Thread Tools” on the blue bar right above the OP, then select “Subscribe to this thread”.
That’s how you subscribe to a thread, but if you have email notifications turned off by default for your subscriptions, you have to do an extra step if you want to get notifications for a particular subscribed thread.
Fair enough - click on “Thread Tools”, click on “Subscribe to this thread”, then choose “e-mail notification” on the following screen.
