Turning up the heat in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 16c/61f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Cloudy with a chance of mild fucking depression.” Not here, this is the kind of weather I like.

There’s a distinct nip in the air now though, yesterday I was sitting at home with a hoodie on over my vest top, and even swapped shorts for longer leggings. No heating on yet though, it was 17c in the house and the heating doesn’t go on until it gets below 15c.

What are you doing to warm up?

Annie and I share one of these to stay warm these days.

Last night I was plagued by what has all the symptoms of pink eye. It has calmed down a bit this morning, but I think I’m still going to do a virtual doctor visit and get some drops just in case.

Thanks to everyone’s advice, I did my first clothes shopping in a major retail store yesterday. I emerged with two pair of pants from Kohl’s. Then MusicMan and I managed to resist buying anything from Spirit Halloween.

Today is back to the IEP fest and Friday is my jury duty.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and sunny for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is men’s night over to the church house. We shall go over early and do setup as is our wont. The parkin’ lot is bein’ redone this week. It is sorely needed plus two additional accessible parkin’ spots with ramps will be done. Thus we get to park on the grass tonight. Adventure! The folks doin’ all this say it will get done this week. We shall see.

BooFae it’s still warm enough here to wear shorts. Temps will be upper 80s later this week. Summer has not let go yet.

Sticky_Buns IEPS and jury duty? Have you pissed off the universe? :grimacing:

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Today’s high is 24 C / 75 F and it’s supposed to get warmer by the end of the week.

We were considering putting the fall (autumn) duvet on the bed, but I’m glad we stayed with the summer one.

Weather’s weird.

Waiting for the hospital to call to tell me when to show up for surgery. Fun times!

My kids got this for me for my birthday.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1758366338/n7-fleece-hoodie-customizable-video-game

I am currently wearing it in the office, and getting glances (but no comments yet) from my colleagues.

I don’t care, because this is my favorite hoodie on the Citadel.

We have multiple options for warmth. First step will be closing the windows - that will start when the nights dip into the 40s. When it gets really chilly, the electric blanket will go on the bed.

First heat option will be the pellet stove. It’s been cleaned professionally and we’ve got 2 anna half tons of pellets staged in the garage. I think last year we fired it up on October, but that was probably due to MIL - she was always cold. The weather will determine when we start it this year.

Currently, if we get cool in the evening, there are afghans everywhere! We’ve got 2 smaller ones in the living room and several of varying size and thickness in the bedrooms. These are especially handy when only one of us is cold.

As for clothing, I did wear shorts one day last week, but mostly, it’s been jeans. I have a light weight hoodie, a heavier hoodie, assorted cardigans, a leather coat, and a cloth coat that’s probably too big for me now - anyway, multiple options depending on the weather. I’ve also got boots that are mainly for when I shovel snow - I think I wore them once last year. We’re ready for most of what Mother Nature can deliver. I hope.

In a couple of hours, I’ll be seeing my cardiologist for a once-over. I expect he’ll just listen to my heart, ask a few questions, and tell me to return in 6 months. I haven’t had any problems, but my regular doc doesn’t want to take any chances. And my RDOS status means I’ve got nothing else to do. Not sure what the rest of the day holds. I may pull more weeds - we’ll see what the weather is when I get back.

FCD will go to the marina, hoping they’ll start on our boat today or tomorrow. For his sake, I hope they do - he’s pacing about (figuratively) like the proverbial tiger in a cage. This project has stretched out toooooo long. The old tanks were removed in January. The new ones should have gone back in before spring, but they weren’t built till July, thanks to fabricators around here playing games until we found the guy who did the job. But with luck, we might be able to get out on the water in a month. Maybe. I dare not predict.

And so the week begins. Happy Moanday!!

I will be wearing my winter jacket inside til they decide to turn the a/c off.

MSP will be in the 80s much of the week, so no nips around here.

Sadie awakened us by hurking up a hairball. I was able to nudge her off the carpet before the final hurk, so no damage done. I guess the hairball treats I bought are working.

Laundry day today. Oh, joy.

I think I’ve finally convinced the wife that we really need to get rid of a lot of useless crap. The building is setting up a “swap table” downstairs. Anything not taken will eventually be donated to the Sallies. We’re making a list.

Still sweating in no. Illinois. The ac goes on in the afternoon.

Da Bears got their butts kicked yesterday. I don’t watch football any kind, but this made the headlines.

Waiting until about 10am when the outside temperature should be about 80F, on the way to 90F. But evenings have been in the 60’s so the AC is getting the nights off.

And some of the push buttons on my Microwave have stopped working, the number panel seems to work OK but the settings don’t. Online advice is trying to unplug and reset it, but otherwise call a technician. So I have that to look forward to this week.

Otherwise should be fairly quiet, soccer to be coached and refereed and mowage is on the agenda for Sunday, but otherwise should be a quiet week (and yes, I have just jinxed myself, Murphy will be calling on me…). No rain expected and highs each day in the 90F range so summer is not quite done with us here in N. Ali-bama.

Sticky Buns, hope the eye gets to doing better.

Dicey. hoping that the surgery goes as planned.

Cervaise, nice hoodie, but it’ll be November at the earliest before it is practical here.

FCM, so “out on the water in a month” Just in time for hurricane season…

Cookie, good luck in ridding yourself of useless crap. Once your done there you can come down here and annoy me to do the same.

wet one, Da Bears.

OK, onward into the day, internetting and then time for shopping and sammich. Have a good week all.

Living in the south, it’s not cool enough to think about keeping warm yet (our temps are still running ~90F mid-day). When I lived in Tennessee, I wore a wool car coat when temps went below 35F. Otherwise, it was a layering thing with hoodies and denim jackets. I’m guessing that I’ll seldom be wearing the winter coat here.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll make a couple of phone calls and do a load of laundry. I’m going to make the trek to the post office today to mail out the cards from yesterday too. Otherwise, RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

saturday was cousin time. 4 midlantic states represented. pa, nj, de, and md. i’m the only one left in phila proper, the other pa cousins are in delco. the whole crew hasn’t been together since 2019. we would do video meets and texts during covid. then there has been downsizing, to small flats or one story hobbit homes, making it tough to handle more than 8 people at a time.

got some tiding done on sunday. dropped a bag at the goodwill bin. best thing about the condo that bin.

for the work day i have 3 alarms set, 6:30, 7, and 7:30. after shutting off the 7 i put on a podcast and was thinking about the day, should i get up and shower, stay in bed with the cat…mulling about, when kablaam! the fire alarm goes off! nothing like an adrenaline rush in the morning. 7:13, i get up, comfort the cats, get dressed, get treats for the cats, check the door, good to open, check the hall, no smoke smell. blessedly the alarm stopped. cuddle lager, give treats, give koritza attention. then get ready to go to the office.
when i got to the lobby, the building engineer was at the front desk. he said one of the sensors in the lobby tripped, false alarm. our building has 3 separate towers, a, b, and c they only connect in a few spots, the lobby being one of them (roof and 4 balconies are the other). so when the lobby or the roof trips the alarm it is building wide. typically, when the alarm is in the units, just the tower the unit is in gets the alarm.

heat wise, i have wall units that i don’t really use. i’m on the 10th floor with east facing windows so it can get to 80+ in the unit in the morning. i have 2 radiant heaters, one near my bed and one by the seating areas in the living room. it rarely goes below 70. the bedroom does run about 3-4 degrees cooler as tower a casts a bit more shade on that side. i have lots of throws and flannel for the cold months.

Good morning.

It’s 50°F and partly cloudy. The skies will become generally sunny later this morning, and our expected high is 73°F. The windows remain open. It’s supposed to climb to 90°F tomorrow, and then drop down to 80°F on Wednesday. Such whackadoodle weather! C’mon autumn!

Yesterday’s so-called rain didn’t even produce enough moisture to wet the pavement thoroughly. That means I’ll need to water everything today.

As things cool down, I switch to long-sleeved shirts, and if I’m especially cold, I’ll put on a sweatshirt or sweater. But, I mainly run around in long-sleeved workout shirts at home or during errands when it’s cool. I have multiple light jackets and haven’t needed a good heavy one in years, although I have a fairly new one hanging in my closet that’s been worn exactly once. Sadly, I outgrew my favorite wool peacoat, which was my typical late fall/winter coat. I loved that thing, and still do.

Dicey, I hope all goes well with the surgery.

Sticky, I hope the eye gets better very quickly.

Cookie, I keep trying to get rid of crap, too. I can’t wait for the next dump run.

I knew the Seahawks won yesterday because the fireworks went off. Maisie was a mess most of the day after that. I miss my quiet neighborhood.

Today I’ll need to go out into public because my husband has declared he’d like me to make his favorite pasta dish with a nice salad for his birthday dinner. I can do that. I was planning on taking him to a nice restaurant, but since this is what he wants, that’s what he’ll get.

Welp, that’s about it for today. I’m going to peruse real estate for a bit, then get my day started. Take care of yourselves.

Our files have been moved to OneDrive. I’ve updated my shortcuts, and I’ve modified and tested a couple of Easytrieves to make sure they can write to where they need to.

About 20 minutes ago I saw an ICE recruitment commercial on TV.

I didn’t sleep well last night, and I woke up today feeling crummy-ish, but I have to go collect Max in a few minutes, so I’m up and at 'em, Adam. That is, I’ll collect him if his person is well enough to drive herself to urgent care. If she’s not, an ambulance might be summoned. A friend who’s coming this afternoon is a retired nurse, so if nothing else, I’ll have her weigh in.

My SIL sent one last message, and it was a calm one, so I think that cyclone is over.

It’s in the 70s here and will be 83 tomorrow, so no need to warm up here. In the winter, I live in a hoodie and drink lots of hot herbal tea. I also use a heating pad because my Raynaud’s Syndrome feet could stop glacial melting and would keep me awake.

Taters, we had the same so-called “rain” here, too (I thought it was raining harder than it was when I posted yesterday.), but my daughter in eastern WA said they were getting a lot of rain, and my son south of here said they got 1/2 ", so I guess it slipped by us.

MetalMouse, that’s odd about the microwave. Is it cheaper to have it fixed or to buy a new one, then? Hope the turn off/on slaps it back into full consciousness.

I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t watch football any more, but I do check on the Bears now and then. I’m just glad I was around for their '86 Super Bowl win and all the insanity leading up to it.

Considering how cheap microwaves are, you might want to weigh the cost of diagnosis/repair against a new machine. When our last microwave died, we never even considered a repair, but maybe that’s just us.

Not out of the water, except for a quick clean of the hull. We’re staying in the slip all winter. Speaking of which, FCD said the marina is having a structural engineer have a look at the deck and a travelift person look at the lift before any more boats go in or out of the water. Meanwhile, the boat hanging in the straps will continue to hang in the straps. Well, it’s not exactly hanging - they have lowered it to blocks, but the straps are still supporting it on the sides. Anyway…

I had one pop up on my tablet - it was scary - seriously scary.

My cardiologist (who was also MIL’s) cracks me up! After giving me a once-over and chiding me about exercising, he said “See you in a year. Merry Christmas!” So I need to put the appointment on Outlook before I forget.

I decided to get a drink at McD’s, and when I drove to the pickup window, the worker handing it out the window said what sounded like “diet caulk” - gave me a bit of a giggle. Who wants fatty fat caulk anyway?!? She was either of Mexican or Puerto Rican origin, but my ear isn’t finely attuned enough to distinguish. (Those two are most likely in this area, other Hispanic folks less so.)

Not sure what I’ll do now. I suppose I could < brace yourselves > dust… Or lie down till the urge passes.

I switched on my central heating !!
First time this year, thermostat set low though - don’t want to overdo it !
I’m sure it’s earlier than last year, probably because it was so warm
this year so it just feels colder.

I was doing the Wordle, and it wouldn’t accept tweach or tweech. You know, as in “tweach his own.”

I’m still wearing long pants, after getting chilly last week. I suppose there’s a platitude that fits in here. “Once smitten, quite shy,” or “Fool me once, quote George Bush.”

I was on the 300 Slide today, with a little loading cleanup on 300 Bottom Blue. I did my Aldi run, and came home and had my dry, flavorless bits. Spot was yelling at me. The only thing worse than arguing with your cat is the sinking feeling that somehow you’re losing the argument. Also, it being 46 days till Halloween, I put up some decorations

Heaving other people’s weights.

So you’re having a weeklong Monday.

My A/C just kicked on. And I have it set at 72 Ferret Height(22 Centipedes)

Laundry’s in the dryer, exercise is done, puzzles all puzzed. There was blood on the laundry room floor, which begs all sorts of speculation. How does one draw blood while doing laundry?

I had horrible dreams last night that took place in an apocalyptic and dangerous landscape. The wife said I hollered at one point and she patted my arm until I woke and shifted positions. No idea what was going on in the dream, only that it was unpleasant.

Sadie has gotten over her barf trauma, apparently:
