tv: nice guy wins

Sorry, I don’t have many examples right now, but - is it my imagination or does the ‘nice guy’ usually get the girl on tv shows, at least more so than in real life?

ie Ross got Rachel in Friends (he was the nerdish scientist guy)
Here in the UK, Mark got Lisa on Eastenders recently.

pukey

(yes, I was recently dumped by someone I thought could be ‘the one’ for a strong-but-silent type with ridiculous facial hair)

Well, King Kong got Fay Wray so…

Yes, because the audience likes the nice guy. That’s why he’s the nice guy. And TV and films cater to the audience, so to hell with realism, give the nice guy the girl.

Of course I don’t know the real-life ratio of nice guy-to-jerk getting the girl, but I’m pretty confident the nice guy in TV or films wins out more afoten than not.

Of course, this works both ways, as I’ve also seen a good number of films where the guy wants a beautiful but bitchy girl throughout the film, but realizes the error of his ways and gets the nice girl who’s not as glamorous.
