TV program screening at hotel?

A person I run into regularly but haven’t really socialized with invited me to this screening. Turns out I’ll have to decline, but I’m curious. What sort of screening would this be, and for what purpose? Why would I have been asked to come?

It seems to me that this event must have some (probably non-obvious) commercial purpose; I can’t imagine it would be for entertainment. I was surprised that this indivdual contacted me. While it’s not out of the question it would be for companionship, it would be a first and pretty much out of the blue. I can’t help but wonder if there’s some Amway-esque surprise in store.

Anyone know, or have a pretty good idea, what’s going on?

Maybe it was a focus group, where they show a pilot episode for a panel to get feedback as to whether they’re on the right track or not?

Up here, the paper runs a contest every year to get “average joe” reviewers for the new fall shows. The winners go to a suite and watch about 8 hours of TV. They then get to review the new shows in the paper.

I’ve never won :frowning:

Last time I did this it seemed as though they were more interested in the commercials than the show. It was kind of fun, but the other people in attendance were real trailer trash.

It’s most likely a focus group for commercials. I went to one. There were segments of two crappy pilots, a few commercials, some storyboards for other commercials and then a questionaire.

90% of the questions were about 3 specific commercials. The remainder were about other commercials, the programs and information about me. I had a wonderful time filling out the questionaire – since I’m over 50, I’m an undesirable demographic. One of the commercials featured Heather Locklear, and that’s pretty much what I answered every question with.

But Mrs. Kunilou did win a basket of goodies.
