I had an accident on my bike Saturday. Entirely my fault. I missed the ramp to get on the bike trail from the parking lot, so I hopped the curb. Not a problem, I’ve done that plenty of times before. This time I understeered, and veered off the trail a little bit. Attempting to get back on the trail, my front tire got caught in the groove between the concrete and the grass. I continued going to my left; my bike, being in a track, went straight.
Now I have road rash all over my left side and a cracked rib on my right. I had to “sleep” last night on the recliner, because I can’t sleep on my side. I am exhausted, and allergies are kicking up, so I’m getting sneezy as well.
This is why I’m glad they are closing my office and have made[quote=“panache45, post:240, topic:919624, full:true”]
When there’s a Presidential debate in town, why is it necessary to close streets and businesses and disrupt traffic for up to a week? Not to mention increased police presence in case of protests and rioting?

me full time remote. I do not envy anyone near Belmont right now,
Our new nanny is 2.5 hours late. No call, not responding to texts or calls. Dammit, we really liked her. I feel like we are just hurtling toward the inevitable: me, leaving a job I love to do full - time child care. I don’t know how else to provide stability and reliability to Sr. Weasel, who just needs to work. It’s gonna be hell on my mental health.
Here to lodge a complaint about the wiring in this tiny hobbit hole of a rental. Not only are there precious few outlets in the house (the most convenient place to set my Instant Pot is on the LIVING ROOM FLOOR to cook!) but there’s zero outlets outside.
Which means, no fun Christmas lights for yer ol’ pal purplehorseshoe this year, at least not outside.
I have an adapter doohickey that lets you use a screw-in lightbulb socket as a plug (from a previous rental with this issue) but this house has big, weird motion-sensing security lights by the steps, and I don’t think I can use those.
Well, of course you do. Would have expected nothing less.
I have the same problem in my built pre-electricity c. 1880 house. When it was eventually wired it obviously was by an amateur. There are any number of appliances I don’t even think of having. I have one ceiling fixture on my front porch(a very high ceiling)-have to leave that light on 24/7 if I want any security light, fixture is too deep into the porch for light sensing and turning on with dusk or motion sensing. Not about to clamber my 70 year old bones up on a ladder to try to string up Halloween or Christmas lights, in spite of how much I would love to have them. Interior light fun, like Christmas trees can’t happen because of, well, you, know…cats.
You don’t even want to know about the plumbing fol-de-rol.
I break the vacuum seal with a regular bottle opener. I maneuver the little pointy thing (I don’t know if it has a name) under the edge of the lid and twist a little bit. Once the seal is broken it’s really easy to open
She said she overslept. Not a good reason to be four hours late for work. She’s getting another chance because she’s great with our son, but I’m worried.
Had to go to two stores this morning. Well, had to go to UPS, I suppose the donut shop was optional. It seems that a mask covers too much of my resting bitch face and people think I’m interested in conversation.
At one I had a Trump guy telling me how the Democrats were going to steal the election with mail in ballot fraud. At the other, one of Biden’s boys was assuring the Republicans were stealing it with voter suppression. Listen. You’re two sides of the same moronic coin. Leave me alone.
The only difference the election will make to me is the tone here on SD. Either it will be “Waaaaahhhhhh!!!” or “In your face, loser!”
This is tough. I’m sorry you are going through it. It is so hard to find a good nanny. SO HARD!
Speaking of - School is going back to in person on October 12th around here. We have opted for in-person because of a multitude of reasons. It wasn’t something we decided on lightly. She’ll still have some remote learning. Her daycare center is supposed to be able to handle this and to take her to and from school. Except, they just announced that they are closing October 12th. For inservice. Great, another vacation day I have to burn. After this, I am out of vacation days until the end of the year.
I’m so glad I don’t have a school - aged kid right now. As annoying as the child care situation is, at least I don’t have to worry about the logistics of my kid getting a safe and effective education. Hat’s off to you for figuring it out.
Still no excuse but good childcare is incredibly hard to find. If she’s worth it to you, buy her a specially labeled loud alarm clock with a battery backup and have it delivered to her (I got one for less than $15 at Tarjay). Better yet, get her two, one you make clear she has to set in a room she will have to leave to leave her bed to turn off the loud alarm. If she is depending on the alarm on her phone, that clearly isn’t working. Granted she should be an adult and should be doing herself but many adults think ‘it will never happen again’ until it does.
Along those lines, I came across the Sonic Bomb Alarm Clock years ago during a discussion with @Rasa. Attached to it is a device to put under your mattress that starts shaking the bed when the alarm goes off. Or there’s the Clocky Alarm Clock on Wheels, which won’t let you snooze.
The reviews on Amazon of Clocky are terrible once you go a few down past the first glowing ones. Lots of other worthy loud alarm clocks there though, including the Sonic Bomb one mentioned.
Ehhh, I’d never buy someone else an alarm clock and say “Here! Hope you can get to work on time now, since you’re clearly not to be trusted on your own!”
I’d be afraid that’s the last I’d ever see of them.
Yeah, its been nothing but despair and angst here for four years, I’d like to hear some crowing for a change.
Yeah, that’s a bullshit excuse she gave you. 4 hours late is a joke. Irrelevant that she’s great with your son if she’s not reliable for you when you need her. Since you don’t seem to be able to use your husband as a backup, you can’t afford not to have a reliable nanny. Start searching now for a new one.
I understand the sentiment, but what exactly did you expect Wallace to do? He didn’t have a mute button, and he wasn’t going to physically go up and put his hand over Trump’s mouth. All he could do (and he did do it) is attempt to verbally shut the CFSG down, which is never going to work very well because the CFSG has no filters or respect for others.
Trump’s behavior was entirely predictable. Dare I say it was even expected. Anyone who thought he would somehow suddenly engage in actual debate had to ignore the entirety of his history.
Wallace, and the organizers of the debate itself, just went along with it. They didn’t put any precautions in effect, didn’t have any penalties for interruptions, and they let Trump do exactly what any idiot who has paid any attention at all fucking knew he would do.
It was like a mother who brings her spoiled, incontinent brat to the store and acts surprised and just shrugs her shoulders when the kid pisses all over the sugar cereals.
