Twenty Years ago this week, the greatest thread in SDMB history was started

Are you sure you’re not conflating two different threads? I remember the 18" electric blue jelly dildo and ‘answering the door to JW’s wielding a sword’ as two separate threads.

Probably, I just remember them as they happened back in the misty days of old =)

Thank you!

My favorite is the one where everone used giant fonts and insane embarrassing phrases etc to make your screen look as bad as possible in a workplace.

Specifically, the 18IBDHJD had been swung as a sword, but the incident involved a couple preparing for a Ren Faire.

I never thought the blimp story was funny. Must be me.

A couple years back, I had stopped in a local pet supply store, and saw a large chew toy for dogs… that was some kind of translucent blue-ish material, shaped like a large bone (not boner…). I don’t think it was 18 inches long but it was definitely 12 or so.

I snickered quietly and left the store.

I do not understand this.

I was reading it on the computer, and my husband in the next room ran in to make sure I was okay - as he heard me wheezing and choking from laughter.

Buckeyes!

That is all.

Oh gosh. Buckeyes. Thanks, @CairoCarol , for that memory.

I don’t know if it is the greatest thread in SDMB history, but it was certainly the greatest pitting in SDMB history. As it was published in 2000, and we have had many Pit threads in the 20-some years since, that says something. Presenting “The Telemarketer Speaks. I respond” by @Cervaise:

It contains such priceless comments as, “I have a butthole, too, but that doesn’t imply I want a running jigsaw inserted into it.”

And this gem:

“Why in the name of God’s Throbbing Prostate would I be so witless as to give my credit card number to a whiskey-swilling lout whose cerebrum is so soaked in spirits that his career options have been reduced to telephoning random people and bullying them into the purchase of a dozen tickets to see Yanni’s houseboy vomiting into a moon boot?”

Why do I feel like I should be saying, “Young grasshoppers, if you want to post in the Pit, you can learn from this”?

Thank you, JohnnyEcks.
It changed the lives of million around the world.

The greatest thread was the annually-revised thread on Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.

The one that made me laugh hardest was Abe Lincoln and his cheddar cheese pie.

Al Traina (the guy next to Johnny Carson) probably had the biggest real world impact. Or maybe the alternate ending to Big (if I say it two more times, the thread will be revived!)
