As the asshole in question, I’ll just add that my feelings weren’t hurt. The whole thing is just amusing. Hence my lame effort to defuse the situation with a little junior modding. I try not to take anything said here by anyone too seriously.

I know this isn’t an official rule or anything, but it seems to me that the OP sets the tone of the thread. If the OP has no political comment, it’s kind of assholish and threadshitty to take political jabs downstream. But if the OP itself contains a political remark, even a brief one, it’s only to be expected that posters might respond to it.

I don’t disagree. The OP brought up politics. But the comment was off-topic and it could’ve dragged the thread off course, so a mod note advising people to stick to the main topic made sense. The posters who responded to the line about Obama didn’t do anything wrong; the issue there was how they responded.

Maybe twickster is tone deaf, or maybe I’m too sensitive, but it reads like a satirical apology in that it repeats the original insult (“assholes”) two more times. Generally I have more sympathy for **twickster **than for her critics, but that post of hers grates.

I think you are too sensitive. That was a fine apology. All she is doing is apologizing for the fact that she broke the rules, not for insulting them.

It was a tone deaf apology that didn’t have a whiff of sincerity. I have absolutely no prior opinion of twickster before all this but I don’t like the fact it got a mod note at all, I don’t like the feigned ignorance that she said anything wrong, and I don’t like the sad excuse of an apology. I give full props to Marley for dealing with everyone’s concerns appropriately though.

Editing posts is huge, as has already been pointed out. Also, after years of lobbying to bring back the posts and threads from the early days of the board, many of which had been removed to save space on the server, they were put back in place. The Elections forum also comes to mind.

Marley, I have no beef with you at all but would you venture a guess (since she’s one of you guys -mods - and since you’ve taken the boards stance on this issue) why it took someone bringing it to a mods attention that calling someone an asshole outside the pit is “inappropriate”? Isn’t that something a moderator should know?

Exactly. She does the same thing in this thread. It seems she can’t acknowledge the fact that she did something wrong without explicitly repeating that she referred to the posters as assholes.

It’s quite close. Much closer than your very liberal reinterpretations of my posts, for example. As far as ‘recreational complaining’ goes, the term goes all the way back to the old Pit rules:

While those rules no longer apply in the Pit because you can’t complain about the moderation down there, the concept has remained in place. Some newer references to the same idea in ATMB:

I think we’re pretty patient with people who might have legitimate concerns. If your participation in ATMB consists of sniping at people, bashing lots of mod decisions, and (let’s say) creative interpretations of comments from mods, it’s hard to see the legitimate concern. So maybe you want to rethink the way you express your concerns.

I’m getting tired of seeing this in practically every ATMB thread. Take your personal problems with each other to the Pit. Do not use the ATMB uproar du jour as a way to snipe at other posters.

That aside, I am agreeing with Fortheringham Wheelbarrow and Shodan. What a pile on for fuck all. Who cares if Twicks called someone as arsehole- at least one of the protaganists doesn’t seem to give a flying fuck.
