That’s what I’ve been assuming. It seems to be the most likely explanation.
I had forgotten about the explosion! Up to that point, she had only had sex the one time with John Justice Wheeler. If she’s been in a coma all this time, and Richard is hers and evil-Cooper’s son, he must have gotten to her somehow.
That scene at the end with Audrey - what a moment!
I had to miss this episode yesterday due to work (stupid Harvey) and only caught it tonight, and good god did it deliver! I can see that I’m going to cherish this series after it’s done - for certain, I’m planning a rewatch.
I was already spoiled for Cooper waking up, but it was still exciting! I suspected the shock last week would do it, and while I was thrilled, I was also kind of sad to be saying goodbye to Dougie. I know that sounds weird, but I had grown very fond of Dougie’s zen approach to the world, and the wonder in his eyes. I was also concerned with Janey-E and Sonny Jim, and I’m glad that they’ll have a happy ending too. (I was totally sure that Sonny Jim was not long for this world, following the spotlight gym set of part 13).
Other thoughts:
I love Eddie Vedder
I’m glad Richard is dead
…I thought Albert was a pacifist?
I feel bad about Hutch and Chantel, and I kinda feel bad that I feel bad.
I hope Cooper makes it out alive. Please. If he doesn’t, can the Red Room Mike make a new one?
I hope the Mitchum Brothers make it through the finale.
I hope the real Diane is relatively okay.
I hope Cooper gets a minute to reflect on losing half of his life.
I hope he and Audrey meet face to face.
I hope Lynch and Frost at least nod to the ramifications of Evil Cooper’s actions.
Here’s something no one seems to be talking about; understandably, given the momentous events of this episode.
What the hell was going on at the coordinates? They’ve been a major plot point for the whole season.
What was evil-Cooper expecting there? Did he have any idea what to expect?
Apparently he wasn’t even sure if it was safe, which I think is why he sent Richard; as a guinea pig.
He spent weeks, maybe years, to get those coordinates. He’s threatened and killed numerous people to get them.
Then he gets there, sees his son vaporized, to his apparent surprise, and then gets in his truck and drives off.
Was he expecting something else, but it instead turned out to be a trap?
That’s how I lean, though I realized over the week that Audrey has black hair, Cooper has black hair, and JJW has dark brown hair. Richard has light brown hair.
Either they ignored genetics during casting or Audrey had a surprise lover that we don’t know about.
Are all of the bands 25+ years old?
I suspect it’s the same as like when the light lead Cooper to the slot machines he could win at. It’s the good spirits using their limited ability to steer things the way they want to. Mike wanted to talk to Cooper, so he lead Bushnell away first.
Which then makes us have to wonder why the spirits were messing around in the Great Northern? Was something happening elsewhere in the hotel and they needed to keep Horne busy? Maybe they’re trying to keep him distracted so that his brother can accomplish something?
I think it was a trap. The other coordinate is the real one.
Of course! That makes sense. I forgot about the other coordinates.
Is there a real Diane? I’m not so sure. Evil Coop manufactured Dougie, and he probably manufactured Diane. It’s possible “Diane” was just Good Cooper’s name for his tape recorder after all. I wonder if Janey-E even really has a sister.
Also, Candy certainly seems to be “returning” like Good Coop was in Dougie’s place. Any idea who she is? Could Diane be part of it? Maybe all these manufactured and spaced out blonde women have to do with Laura Palmer returning? (Though they got an older Laura Palmer for the Black Lodge, no idea why they couldn’t use the same actress if Laura was returning to the real world like Coop was.)
My thoughts:
Mike is going to clone a new Dougie Jones from Cooper’s DNA, who will return to Janey. This will be a better Dougie since he isn’t cloned from the Bob-Cooper DNA.
“Judy” is none other than Garland Briggs, “Judy Garland” if you will.
The real Dianne has been transformed into the eyeless woman who helped Cooper out of the strange place.
Sarah Palmer will be the one to kill Bob-Cooper.
Audrey and Cooper will hook up in the end.
I think Mr green glove might be the one to kill Bob-Cooper. There must be some reason he was given that glove and sent to Twin Peaks.
There’s a possibility that Mr. Green Fist and James and all the Roadhouse denizens are figments of the comatose Audrey’s imagination. Like the girl who got fired from the hamburg joint, I’m just itching to find out.
But Greenfist and James were shown outside of the roadhouse. Multiple times, I think, in James’s case. It’s hard to square “Roadhouse = Audrey’s coma” with James, Greenfist, and Steven who all had scenes in the roadhouse and elsewhere. I think it might not be a coma so much as some weird Black Lodge magic, and therefore she’s seeing what’s really happening there even though she isn’t there herself.
After a quick google, the answer: no.
If there was no Diane, though, how would Gordon and Albert know her? I like the Naido connection, though it makes me wonder how and if the Janey-E half sister reveal meant anything. Whether she’s still alive is up for debate.
As for Candy, I’m feeling more weight behind the idea that she’s a vessel or tulpa for Laura. From a story telling standpoint, it’s a little odd that the Mitchums are going to Twin Peaks, and I think they’re basically a means to get Candy there.
Not related: I just looked back and noticed my little offhand ‘stupid Hurricane Harvey’ comment, and cringed at my own tastelessness. I was working Sunday night because of an influx of patients from Corpus and Houston, and I should have known better than to be glib. I’m going to apologize for implying that I value watching a TV show over human life. I don’t, and I feel ashamed of myself for even joking that I do.
I think he’s in Twin Peaks (and specifically in jail) to protect Naido.
I’ve been on YouTube watching videos of people’s reactions to this episode.
I love this one. Yeah, she’s kind of a flake but she’s entertaining.
She’s awesome and has good insight. I also like this girl for her fun reactions, plus she’s kinda hot. She refused to do one for episode 8, saying she hated it. The What The Flick gang has a ton of insight.
It was probably unfair of me to call her a flake. I agree that she is awesome and is someone I’d probably like to know. My reaction to Coop waking up was as strong as hers.
My impression of flakiness comes from her talking about alchemy and astrology but, to be fair, she may have simply been talking about how she thinks those things relate to the show. She may not believe in them herself.
The actual Laura Palmer actress is 50. Lynch may have decided that a happy ending requires a chick in her 20s as the romantic partner of Cooper (played by 58-year-old Kyle MacLachlan).
I hope that’s not what’s going on, as it seems sort of overly conventional (what! a 50-year-old woman with a 58-year-old man? Unthinkable!)
Anyway, on the topic of Laura coming back at all: has anyone come back from the Lodge after having died in real life?
Why would Cooper and Laura be involved? Cooper and Audrey would be more logical.
