Many of us have been able to see 3 & 4, so let’s discuss.
Anyone else think that that cup of coffee is going to bring Cooper out of his stupor? It was the first thing I thought when she set the mug on the table. Am I remembering correctly that the first time we saw him drink coffee in the original, he spit it out but liked it?
Was the eyeless woman supposed to be Josie Packard?
The eyeless woman did look like Joan Chen, but I doubt that’s who she is.
I just watched the first season, and no, Cooper was already a coffee drinker.
I didn’t say that she was Joan Chen. Joan Chen is not in the cast list. But it’s possible that that character was supposed to be Josie, just played by another actor.
I know that he was already a coffee drinker, but I’m talking about the first time we saw him drinking coffee. I may be mistaken about it being the first time, but I distinctly remember him spitting out a first sip of a fresh cup and then declaring it to be “damn fine coffee”. The scene in Dougie Jones kitchen was sort of a parallel to that.
That hadn’t occurred to me, but it makes a Lynchian sort of sense.
David Duchovny is probably the most successful actor to come out of the show, and he’s the one I least expected to return. But there he is. What a guy.
It looks like the One-Armed Man is serving as The Man From Another Place. Too bad. Al Strobel can’t match Michael J. Anderson’s charm.
At the end of Ep 4, Gordon and Albert mention a woman they need to talk to. I assume that’s Annie Blackburn.
I don’t think it’s Annie. Every reference I’ve seen says that Heather Graham’s not in the cast list.
One of them did say that they know where the woman works, at which point it immediately switched to a scene at the Bang Bang Bar. That makes me think that the woman may work there. Of course, Annie could be working there but as I said, it doesn’t appear that Heater Graham is in the cast. She could be played by someone else but I think I’d rather they didn’t have her at all than replace her with a different actress.
Then again, who else could they be talking about that would be working in a Twin Peaks bar? Audrey? Why would she need to work in a bar? Who else in Twin Peaks was Cooper at all close to?
Maybe the switch to the Bang Bang Bar had nothing to do with the woman and was just a way to close out the episode. Could it be Diane? If she’s still an FBI employee then he could have meant that he knows which FBI office she’s currently working in.
I assumed Annie was important enough that they’d re-cast her instead of writing her out. But you’re right - they haven’t re-cast anybody yet. So yes, the woman in question could be Diane.
What if Annie needed facial reconstruction and came out of the hospital looking like Laura Dern? Stranger things have happened.
Facial reconstruction is a possible explanation, but the more I think about it, the more likely it seems that it would be Diane. Why would they think to talk to Annie? Diane makes a lot more sense.
In a completely different vein; who the hell in that Sheriff’s office thought that it was a good idea to put Bobby Briggs in charge of keeping drugs from crossing the border? I would hope that it wasn’t Harry.
He seemed to be really enjoying himself in that scene. I think that he probably did it out of love for his craft, and probably that show in particular. I doubt that he really needs to work anymore.
Peggy Lipton is going to make one appearance.
I feel like he looked better in the role, last time. It looked like he had been hitting the weights and really bulked out his shoulders and biceps. Not to say that every transvestite in the world wants to look dainty and effeminate, but it wasn’t a good wardrobe pick for his body shape.
The old guy with the twirled whiskers at the house where Evil Cooper picked up Ray and Darya had a certain movement of his head and eyes that was very reminiscent of The Man from Another Place. I’ll be curious if he returns.
I believe that he’s had a number of issues with sex addiction (and possibly other addictions), and he’s had at least one divorce, either of which could be a significant drain on your income.
Overall, there’s no fortune too big that you can’t blow it.
But probably he does have a regular income that he doesn’t really need to work for.
When the police investigated the apartment, they found the librarian’s head and the headless body of an unknown obese man. We know that the Medical Examiner couldn’t read the man’s fingerprints because the records were classified. We also know that the person Cooper has replaced (Dougie Jones) was obese and had disappeared for days. Was that Dougie Jones’ headless body in the apartment?
Interesting thought. We also know that Major Garland Briggs has gone missing. It could be him.
According to Bobby, Major Briggs died in a fire shortly after Agent Cooper disappeared. From what Bobby said, it sounds like Cooper’s doppelganger was responsible.
When I was watching episode 4, my On Demand did some kind of hiccup, and started replaying from the beginning when Dougie Jones got home, and I just thought it was some kind of flashback at first. I let it run for a full five minutes before I checked the timer on the player.
BTW, does anyone else’s On Demand require an elevated volume? My TV mostly can be set at 28, except for TNT and PBS, which need to be at 34 and 42, respectively, but On Demand needs to be at like, 54.
Netflix needs to be really high also, but VUDU and HULU need to be low.
What I heard was, “I know where she drinks.”
I just checked and you’re absolutely right. It was Albert who said it and it sounds like “drinks”, and the close captioning says “drinks”.
So then the question is, does the scene change to the Bang Bang Bar indicate that that’s where she drinks or is it just a way of closing out an episode?
So far, every episode except the first ends with the credits rolling over a scene at the bar. So it may be meaningless.
Off the top of my head, the first instance of Cooper’s coffee love was at breakfast at the Great Northern where he gestures to the waitress to wait while he tries the coffee, then says something like, “Wait a mintue. (takes a sip) That’s a (excuse me) a *damn *fine cup of coffee.” I’m pretty sure that was the morning after his arrival in TP.
The spit-take scene was a day or two later when they were doing the Tibetan/bottle/rock throwing thing..
I dunno, I’ve watched 1-4 of TP3 now and I’m underwhelmed. I’ll keep watching but I’m having trouble getting into it when I don’t have a single storyline I can latch onto that isn’t tangled in some cryptic shit. And there’s the endless parade of characters.
Hm, true. I do wonder if someone new to the series might be overwhelmed by the character count simply because they don’t have the background on most of them?
I think people new to the series will have a hard time with this. This isn’t the usual type of weird TV show that people have become used to since the original TP changed the face of television. This is full-on Lynch, unrestrained by the ABC suits that trammeled him last time, this is the Lynch of Eraserhead, Lost Highway, Inland Empire, an 18-hour Lynch film, probably his last ever, and the man is taking no prisoners.
One thing. I really, really want to meet Mother!
