Whenever I am tired/sleepy my eye twitches. Today I must be really tired because it twitches every few minutes and I can’t get it to stop. Normally if it starts twitching I blink to make it stop or at least disguise it’s twitchiness. I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem. Ideas why it does that? And also, are there any other techniques to stop it? No amount of blinking is stopping my twitchy eye today. Thanks!
I have this problem sometimes. The worst for me was when it twitched for about 3 days. I’m not very helpful, however, because I also don’t know why it happens. Somebody once told me something about a magnesium deficiency, but it never bothers me enough to actually look into it.
First time it really bothered me was around finals in college. I was bugged enough to ask my dad (a family doctor) about it, and what I could do about it, and he said “Wait. It’s stress - after you’re done with your tests, it’ll go away.” I was a pretty good student, and didn’t think I was all that worried about my exams, so I scoffed at him: “Dad! I’m not worried about my grades!” He got to scoff right back a week later when the twitch disappeared after finals.
Now when the twitch comes on, I try to identify what might be the cause of my stress. Sometimes, it’s something you can work a solution to. Sometimes, it’s not, but I like to think that thinking about it in a constructive way helps a bit.
My right eyelid twitched non-stop for more than a week. It stopped about four days ago and the twitch moved down into my right cheek, making me feel like I was smirking. Unbelievably irritating. It went away on Sunday. I’m pretty stressed at the moment.
It’s benign unless accompanied by pain - in which case it’s possibly neuralgia.
When I had this problem I went to the eye doctor and it was stress.
Stress in my eyes because I needed glasses.
Do you have glasses now? If not you may just need them. If you do you may need a new Rx.
Call your eye doctor. It may be very simple and you will feel better, I did.
My eye sometimes used to twitch if I was over-caffeinated (which can certainly go hand-in-hand with being stressed or tired, for some people). If that’s a possible cause, you might try cutting down on the caffeine and see if that makes it go away.
“insight” - heheheheh:)
I’m another of the Tribe of othe Twitchy Eye. Sometimes I can relate it to a shortage of sleep, other times, not so much. But the stress idea makes a lot fo sense to me.
Do you good people find that it tends to affect the same eye most of the time, or both equally?
I went to the company nurse with this problem and she asked me how often I exercised. Apparently lack of exercise can trigger the eye-twitch, and exercise can remedy the situation. For me, the embarassment of being asked how often I exercised was enough to solve the problem, LOL.
