Two funerals in my city today

I hope I never have to see this kind of thing again.

Today, here in Topeka, Kansas there were the funerals for two police officers shot to death last week, in the line of duty.

The funerals were held in the Expocentre, a big municipal auditorium. It was the only place large enough to hold all the mourners. for officers from all over the state, and surrounding states, came to pay their repects.

People lined the route the procession would take. The first funeral was at 10:00AM but the memorial and the procession lasted so long there wouldn’t be time for the turnaround for the next one at 2:00PM, so it was delayed until 3:30PM. I stood out at both processions. At the first I counted 424 vehicles, without including the motorcycles. By the time the second was passing, it was getting pretty dark and that let the flashing lights stand out all the more.

At least I didn’t hear of the Phelps causing difficulties. Since the rock they live under is here in Topeka, I was afraid they’d cause a commotion. If the were anywhere at all I didn’t hear about it.

Some of them, at least, were in Sandy Hook, although apparently the Hells Angels and the fire and police departments of NYC sent people to block the view of WBC by the mourners.

(I know it says Patriot Guard, but the Patriot Guard website says they weren’t there. I’d seen another story that said it was the Hells Angels, not the Patriot Guard, but I can’t find it now.)

And wouldn’t you know, the reason I heard about this was because of the 'Dope. In this case, Patty O’Furniture’s post.
