Surreal, I think the point of people’s anger was that this was not an accident. This was deliberate. She didn’t accidentally lock her kids in the car and forget about them. She was “punishing” them and left them there on purpose.
Surely no rational person would lock their kids in the car with the windows rolled up for 3 hours as a punishment for misbehaving. So she’s insane, and therefore not responsible for her actions.
If she just forgot about them all that time, then she’s just plain stupid. Either way, I don’t see how she could be held accountable.
You don’t think her mother is upset over the fact that she lost GRANDCHILDREN?!
I bet she is in utter shock and disbelief over what her daughter has done.
When I made my first post I was going to ask a question that was asked shortly after I posted.
Why didn’t anybody do anything?
You know there had to be people going in and out of the salon or other stores around.
This has got to be the weakest argument I’ve ever heard against the Death Penalty, whether specific or general. “We can’t execute this criminal, we’ll make their mommy cry.”
Surreal, do you really not see how ridiculous that argument is? By that standard, practically no one would ever be held accountable for their crimes.
“Surely no rational person would rape and murder a complete stranger and bury her body in the woods, so how can they be held responsible?”
“Surely no rational person would beat a man to death in a bar parking lot because they believed him to be homosexual, so how can they be held responsible?”
“Surely no rational person…” Well, you get the idea.
The real world: try living in it for a change.
Christ. I can’t stay silent any longer.
What a fucking idiot. Sure, she might not have realized what she was doing to her kids. She may have been stupid. But the reasonable, rational person would realize that you can’t leave kids in a car for 3 and a half fucking hours without something being wrong.
If nothing else, it was criminal negligence. And I think that child abuse includes those actions that include reckless disregard of possible consequences.
I feel genuinely nauseous.
Just an FYI, there is no indication that her mother is alive or in the picture. She was living with her father and the children. And this is probably tearing him up either way.
Surreal, you used to amaze just ME on a daily basis. I fear that your idiocy in this thread will rocket you to fame and you’ll forget all about how I knew you were a clod three months ago.
An insane and/or ‘stupid’ person, as you put it, would not have the presence of mind to come up with an elaborate story about a kidnapping and rape to avoid punishment.
The devil called, he’d like you to cease being his advocate.
I agree. Once, when Dominic was 4, we stopped at Best Buy to pick up something really quick. He was sound asleep, buckled into his car seat. It was about 8pm, dark out and cool.
Someone called the cops and we were reported to CPS. We were in the store for maybe 10 minutes.
It was a mistake on our part to do it for even 10 minutes at night, but it only takes half a clue to know that you can’t leave tiny kids alone for HOURS!!
Oh, great. As if things aren’t bad enough, she’s pregnant with her third child. The humanity.
Ok Surreal, let’s just give her a hanky and let her on her merry way. Same with all those who have murdered people in a momentary fit of rage when they weren’t thinking properly… and those who have done it because they were too stupid to figure it out (like drunk drivers) and everyone who has ever been emotionally upset by their own crimes “oh, I shot my whole family in a drunken rage, now I miss them so much!”
I say sterilize her and then lock her up.
Surreal, where has your head been all your life…? Even if it’s been under a rock the whole time (although I suspect a darker, less comfortable place, myself), you can not help but to notice the routine horrors committed by “rational persons”. One of the real horrors of evil is that it is banal, selfish, and common.
I admire your desperate desire to have faith in the milk of human kindness, but it’s time you removed your head from wherever it’s been, and join the rest of the world.
:sniff:
I hate you, Tarajee Maynor.
Surreal, there are several country miles in between “fucking idiot” (which is the absolute least of epithets this woman deserves) and “legally insane”.
IANAL (and people who are lawyers are welcome to correct me) but, as I understand it, for an insanity defence to succeed, the fucking idiot in question would have to demonstrate that either a) she was unable to distinguish between right and wrong (which defence is pretty much blown out of the water by her driving around trying to think up a cover story) or b) that she could differentiate right from wrong but was driven by an irrestistable impulse. There’s not much suggestion of that either. From what I can see, and from my (limited layman’s) understanding, she’s not legally insane - she’s just a fucking idiot at best, sociopath at worst.
Those poor kids…
You could say the same about child molesters. No reasonable person would want to rape a kid. They must just be nuts. Prepare Chester the Molester’s release papers!
Insane? Hell no. Cruel, callous, acting with extreme negligence and willful disregard for the lives of her children? Yup. It can be hard to understand or accept, but not all parents are good parents. Bearing children does not make selfish people selfless, fools wise, or the cruel kind.
And in 1999, the selfish and the cruel amongst the parents of America killed 1,100 kids. http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cb/publications/cm99/cpt4.htm
(ok, 80.9 percent of them were parents. The other 19.1% were other random asshol…er, caregivers)
I suspect that Surreal may just be attention seeking here, folks. S/he defends the mother that did this to her children, yet in this thread: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=119604
S/he wonders why people have children? :smack:
S/he faked us out? If so, Surreal, my apologies, my hat’s off to you!
Good catch, Wildcatz.
Surreal, do your ‘look at me’ gig in threads of a less volcanic potential, if you please, or risk being labeled a ‘jerk’, and suffer the consequences therof.
Thank you.
I can’t wrap my mind around this. I cannot fathom how anyone could be so stupid and cruel as this woman was. I know evil people exist in the world, but my god! I honestly don’t know what to say. I’m floored and disgusted, and I feel so bad for those poor children. I don’t care what they did, and I don’t think they did anything at all except be little kids. No one deserves to die as they did. I, too, wonder where folks were and why no one tried to help those children. I also have to wonder how any person can drive around in a car for hours with her dead, vomit-covered children in the backseat, and have the fucking nerve to drive up to the police with her freshly done hairdo and claim that she was abducted and raped and think that would be accepted! Just senseless on so many levels. I’m just haunted by the thought of those babies sitting in that car suffering physically and mentally because they had to face the fact that their own mother betrayed them. My heart just aches for those poor little babies.
I’m not a malicious person, but I hope that Tarajee Maynor lives a long time locked away somewhere sweltering where there’s just enough air to keep her alive and comes to know in intimate detail the depth of suffering and betrayal she inflicted on those children.
Motherfuck not again. This is the second maybe third time this topic has been a pit rant.
One was eaten in the board crash the other I cannot find.
Working as a locksmith I have seen this happen way to many times. The majority realize they have accidentally locked the keys in the car with the kids and call 911.
I have NO sympathy for s carpet munching snivelling cunt fungus who does it intentionally.
I swear if someone were to have walked by and busted the window and sued to replace the window I damn sure would send the good sameritian cash to help in a legal defense.
I am going to quit now since this is a rather touchy subject with me.
