Two Kids Dead, But Mom's Hair Sure Looks Nice

If it happens all the time, how can these parents claim ignorance and stupidity? How can you NOT know that leaving kids in a car is WRONG?
Yes, it does happen all the time. For a grown woman to leave two small children alone in a car on a hot day for three frigging hours, you can’t tell me there wasn’t some bit of malice involved. Even if it wasn’t hot, you don’t leave two little kids alone in the car, or alone ANYWHERE, just so you can get your hair done. That’s just common sense.

As someone mentioned back on the first page, this case reminds me of the Susan Smith case. I wonder if there wasn’t some extenuating circumstance that made her want to be rid of her kids.

(Yes, I read the link, I just find it amazing that so many people think it’s okay to leave kids alone in a car.)

Hmm… Surreal, there’s someone from your village on the line… they’re looking for their idiot…

Surreal (you heartless little robot troll),
Even if it does happen all the time, I think the outrage expressed here is entirely appropriate. The more people who are infuriated by this behavior, the more who let it be known that it won’t be tolerated in a society they are a part of, the less often it will happen.

Please go away now and leave this discussion to those of us with a shred of human decency.

A. Primate,
belladonna has already answered you (thank you, love), so I won’t waste much time on it. But try to pay attention, 'kay?

Exactly Kinsey!

If I were to leave my one-year-old alone in a completely childproof, padded room with plenty of food and water and toys and a television showing his favorite Rollie Pollie episodes so that I could go off to get stitches in a major scalp wound—I’D BE A MAJOR FUCKING ASSHOLE AND A CRIMINAL TO BOOT! You DO NOT leave small children unattended even in the most optimal conditions, even for the most justifiable reasons. To leave them unattended in uncomfortable and ultimately fatal conditions for petty selfish reasons is indefensible.

And Surreal–how many of those dead children (which included kids who had entered cars on their own and been trapped, BTW) had parents who drove around with their vomit-covered corpses in the backseat while they formulated an alibi? Are you seriously suggesting that what this bitch did–namely, leaving an infant and a young toddler alone for HOURS–was somehow just a “whoopsie”? In the best possible world, you can say that she didn’t intend for those children to die, that she left them there thinking they’d be OK when she returned. But she was gone for three hours! She never checked on them once! She KNEW that an infant needed regular care and chose to ignore that need because she had better things to do. Why do you continue to act as if this was a tragic consequence to an understandable behavior? It’s NOT understandable. It’s negligent, and abusive, and–in this, and many other cases unfortunately–it’s murderous.

Ferrous–how do you slip in while I’m posting every damn time?!

Anyway, no prob. I got your back.

bella

You know whats disheartening to me? She’ll go to jail and then 20 - 30 years from now none of the outrage being felt now will make a difference. Then it’ll be “But it does no good to keep her locked up!” and “She’s paid her price already”. And then she’ll be walking free while two little bodies are still dead.

Grim

But if anything Grim…it will keep her from procreating any more and take away some of her freedoms.

The fact that this woman lied to the cops about being kidnapped and raped before recanting and admitting to everything tells me she is a sociopath.

Where is the father in this terrible story?

What do you want to bet that she a) tries to sue the hair salon in some way/shape or form for her delay of styling? b) sues the car manufacturer (Dodge) for not having a *warning label * on the dash board saying that " Children and pets should never be left inside of a car at any time. Doing so could result in death and life imprisonment. c) somehow I see Geoffrey Fieger getting involved in this. d) Some kind of Post Partum depression excuse will be bandied about.

I have to lock my van up because my kids are always climbing inside to play. I don’t even leave videos in the car because of the melt/warp factor. I have come close, several times, to bashing in the window of a car to save a pet from the severe heat due to stupid owners. ( cops arrived and did it instead.)

What the media should do ( and it will never happen) is to show the video of the cops pulling those poor lifeless bodies out of the car and the EMS working on those kids. Then it should be shown at every driver’s ed class and every parenting class in the world.

BTW, I’m about forty minutes from Southfield and it is about 92 degrees right now.

This is exactly what I don’t understand, belladonna, and you (and others in this thread) bring up an excellent point: what the hell were the people in the parking lot of the hair salon doing while these kids were dying? Just passing through?

I have broken windows getting pets out of cars on hot days. The cops never come in time, and after I got arrested and charged with criminal mischief, destruction of property, and attempted theft after saving the life of a beagle who was trapped in some oxygen-thief’s Jetta on a 97 degree day in a mall parking lot, I stopped bothering to call the police. Now I keep a brick and a baseball bat in my trunk for this purpose. And people just watch me. Once some people applauded and came over to help. But otherwise, people just stare open-mouthed as I bash in a window, grab the dog, and speed off to the local animal shelter. And I do not leave a note- if you’re going to abandon a living thing inside what is basically an oven on a hot day while you go off shopping, you have proven yourself unworthy of the joy and love an animal can bring. Despite paying a hefty fine, plus the cost of the window, plus now having a criminal record, it was worth it, and I have done it again, and will do it again, because I will not sit idly by and allow a living creature to suffer and die due to the cruelty and stupidity of one of my conspecifics. If I did, I’d be just as guilty as the scumfuck who left them in the car in the first place. And if I’m willing to go to this length for a dog, what wouldn’t I do for a human child?

So, yeah, where the fuck was human decency and respect for life that day, huh?

This woman needs removing from society and fast. I vote for pressing her to death. Publicly. Because she’s demonstrated a complete disrespect for life, and is therefore, I feel, no longer deserving of it. And of course she’s pleading her belly. Well, this kid, when born, needs away from her and off to some deserving individual(s) who will love and cherish him/her as should be done. I can only hope that after she is safely delivered of the child, she falls victim to a raging puerperal fever, the agony of which will be a constant reminder of why she no longer deserves anything but abuse and public opprobium, if not a lingering death.

I am frightened by the intensity of the anger I feel towards this person.

I’d like to address Surreal now, being unable to resist his trolling attempts. Some points I’d like to make:

  1. Yes, shit like this happens all the time. Thus we speak of the ‘banality of evil’. It is ubiquitous and depressingly common, almost never on the cosmic scale of Hitler or various sci-fi novels. However, and let me make this very clear, in small words:

THAT IS NO FUCKING EXCUSE.

Stupidity is no excuse for causing the death of anyone, let alone your own fucking children.

How is it that you do not understand this? Your stupidity causes me physical pain. I do not wish to call into question the genetic properties of your parents, but your exceedingly low level of mental acuity is beginning to make me wonder. Please return to your dark, wet hole and resume devouring the filth which nourishes your tiny brain-stem.

It bugs me alot that this monster will be allowed to nurture a growing fetus inside her wretched body for several more months. Can’t the fetus be removed and raised to term in an artificial womb? Much more motherly-like, I would think.

Another Primate --“what is with us” is that we were discussing the asinine suggestion that rape would be an appropriate punishment. You obviously read the first page to find that quote–did you skip the ten posts immediately above it, or what? This may be overly snippy, but it seems to me that if you’re going to quote somebody and then comment negatively, you should probably have quoted the poster who actually made the suggestion and not those of us who were merely discussing it.[/B}

Yikes, you are absolutely right. I’m sorry. Was sleepy and skimming and emotional and should not have posted.

Sorry! You’re both right. I’m a bonehead. (Well, most of the time, I’m not.) Anyway, I apologize.

Stupidity is apparently the new excuse for everything. She is now charged with manslaughter instead of murder.

Quote: A detective who interviewed Maynor when she took the children to the hospital said that Maynor made a statement to him and confessed to neglecting her children. She reportedly told him “I would never hurt my children. I was too stupid to know they would die.”
[…]
Local 4 has learned that Maynor had a third child. Gorcyca said that she walked into an unnamed Wayne County facility and said that she no longer wanted the child before leaving it there for 58 days. The child was eventually put up for adoption.
End of quote

And she is pregnant again … Listen, woman: If you do not want any children, try some birth control!

Oh, God, that shattering sound you heard? That was my heart breaking, after reading that the baby had been unbuckled from the seat, probably in an attempt by her big brother to help her.

The incubator (I will NOT refer to her as a mother) was not too stupid to drive around and come up with a rape and abduction story, was she? Please, there has to be karma in the universe…I hope her children will be reborn to some couple finally pregnant after years of infertility…I hate stories like these. I hope the prosecutor gets the murder charges reinstated. Whether or not she intended to kill the children, she attempted to lie about their deaths, so there is some (pre?)meditation there.

I know this thread is a couple years old, but it’s back in the news so I hope I will be forgiven for reviving the thread. I just wanted to update the news.

The Michigan Supreme Court issued it’s ruling in the case this week. They basically held that first-degree child abuse requires the prosecution to establish, and the jury to be instructed that to convict it must find, not only that defendant intended to commit the act, but also that defendant intended to cause serious physical harm or knew that serious physical harm would be caused by her act. By so holding, the court requires that the State prove Tarajee Maynor knew that locking her kids in a car on a 80+ degree day while she got her hair washed, relaxed, and styled, while she had a snack, and while she tried on a new sundress, would cause serious physical harm to the children.

Her defense remains: I’m too stupid to have known locking my kids in a car on a hot day for three and a half hours may harm them.

Trial is set to begin in October.

Shit, I have a cell phone, and if I notice an animal in a vehicle and my trip in to the store is short [I try to keep my shopping to a minimum, I must be one of teh few women alive who hates to shop=\] like 15 minutes and the poor critter is still there I call the cops and animal control. It happens to be illegal aroud here to abuse animals. If I saw a kid in a car, even if the damned car was running and in a no parking zone I would be on the phone to 911 so freaking fast it would make your head spin. You just dont leave kids in the car for 5 minutes, let alone 3 hours…

What about second degree murder charges? They don’t require this knowledge, right? (crossing fingers.) I looked for Michigan murder statues but only found this rather unsatisfying clause. (First degree murder is 750.316, FYI.)

From another Michigan case, we get this language:

Maynor is charged with Felony murder, which is first degree murder. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that at trial, the State may request an instruction on the second degree murder charge. If they can prove the malice required for the felony (child abuse), I can see why they wouldn’t charge her with the lesser 2nd degree murder yet. But at trial, they may want to give the jury a middle ground. I guess we’ll see how it goes.

Next time start a new thread

Not to get all junior mod or nothin’, just sayin’ is all…

Anyone else relieved that the baby she was pregnant with got put up for adoption?
