A radio or stolen newspapers.
“After being captured, the escapees told police investigators that their weeks of freedom were as a result of reading tips and posts on the Straight Dope Message board on a stolen iPhone.”
Waiter! I’ll have what he is drinking.
The Lady that helped them has been arrested. She’ll getting a taste of prison from the other side of the bars. I wonder how many years she’s facing? 5? 10? or even more?
ISTM, some article mentioned she could get 7 years.
ETA: Okay, just did some googlizing. this article says she could get 8 years.
That sounds about right. Thank you for the article.
She’ll probably take a plea deal for less time. Depends on whether the escaped prisoners harm anybody while they are out. That could drastically change her situation.
She may spend some time in jail, but not showing up probably saved her life. They most likely would have killed her once she wasn’t useful anymore. Why leave loose ends?
Killing her would have told the police where they had been.
They should really go easy on her since she’s an “Air Force Mom” and she raised a hero!!
It’s been 8 days or so. You can hike quite a ways on foot in that time. I’m wondering if someone they know didn’t already set them up with a stocked safe-house they could make a bee-line for and hide out in for a while.
But it would have given one of them a skin suit to use as an effective disguise.
I don’t believe they are any where near Hannibal Lecter’s league.
:dubious:
Hunger and exhaustion should have flushed them out by now. That seems to indicate they found or had a hidey-hole someplace. Stocked with food and water.
Or they were smart enough to have a backup plan in case their lady friend let them down. They may have arranged a backup ride that got them out of the area. Its been reported they made calls to friends on this lady’s cell phone. That might be when they finalized their escape plans.
Doesn’t matter that much. Its just a matter of time before the law catches up. Theres no way to escape the Internet and social media. Someone will recognize them and post photos.
Even a felon has dreams.
These guys are likely hundreds of miles away by now. I wonder if Canada was an option-the border is close by.
My guess is they’re already in Canada too. A 20-mile hike is a bitch in the woods, but not at all impossible. They could’ve even brought some food with them to get them through a few days in that guitar case. And that’s assuming they didn’t have a back-up driver.
Once in Canada, all bets are off. Is Canada cooperating in the search at all?
:dubious: Is there a cop anywhere in NY state on routine patrol? Who’s guarding all the state’s banks and responding to 911 calls?
Didn’t realize they had 800 spare cops in the entire state. Theres only so many that can be reassigned from other cities. Cuomo must have a real hard-on to catch these guys no matter the cost to routine patrolling.

It really is like reading dispatches from some psychotic Twilight Zone. I wonder what episode will be referenced next.
Police stand guard at banks in NY? They don’t here, private security guards do. Police are the only first responders in NY? Not true here. The governor of NY has taken to mainlining Viagra until they’re caught? Well, our governor is a woman so who knows?
Anyone with any sense wants these guys caught. One killed and dismembered his boss. Nobody wants any part of that.
As a New York State resident- uh, yeah. That’s exactly what he should be doing. Redirecting officers from routine work to focus on the emergency. New York isn’t some war zone where the routine policing is so critical to law and order they can’t be re-directed for a short time.
What a strage POV.
I thought you were going to think before you posted? Because you sound like someone entirely unfamiliar with the State of New York, where there are over 4,600 state troopers, 23,000 corrections officers, about 300 state park police (relevant because some of the search area is in state forests) and some large number of municipal police, county police and sheriffs. I think they can find 800 officers from among these groups.
Wanting these guys caught does not require that Andrew Cuomo “have a hard on”. (Hell, I live nowhere nearby and I hope they’re caught soon.)
A lot of those 800 law enforcement officers are guards brought in from other prisons. Most prisons have their own escape pursuit team. They’ve sent them all upstate. And they’re using state troopers and other police as well. (They’re living in the dorms at the state college at Plattsburgh.)
In some cases, their regular posts will be closed. But in others they’ll just hire overtime and have another guard or cop cover the job left vacant because the regular guy is up north searching for the escapees.
