The difficult of locks seems to have very little correlation with what’s held inside… valuable items always have difficult locks, but I’ve opened very hard locks that have only had a plate or two in there. Must’ve been really important plates.
I just broke 3 lockpicks opening a chest to get… a lockpick. Good practice though.
I got all 4 books of the mythic dawn thing. I pieced together that the first letter of every paragraph stands for GREEN EMPORER WAY WHERE TOWER TOUCHES MIDDAY SUN …
But I can’t figure out what exactly that means. I know where green emporer way is, and I assume they’re talking about the huge tower - but where does it touch the midday sun? Does that mean the top of the tower?
Go to Green Emperor way (graveyard area near the palace) around noon. Look for anything…out of the ordinary
Full spoiler –
If you go to Green Emperor way graveyard around noon, you’ll see one of the tomb/mauseleums have a glowing red symbol on it. Go up an click on it and it puts a location on your world map where you’re supposed to go – temple or some such. I’m about go inside, ATM. .
A valid argument, but a moot point, since Oblivion (unlike Morrowind) sets the skills you pick as major to 25 (Apprentice rank) + racial bonuses at the end of the tutorial dungeon. So aside from minor tweaks of racial bonuses, every char starts with the same levelling potential.
These oblivion levels are randomly generated, right? Has anyone ran into one where there’s no clear good path to the main tower? I’m in my second one, and short of some complex mountain climing jumping that may or may not work, there doesn’t seem to be any way to get there…
Ahh, this reminds me: so Apprentice Rank is 25. What to you have to get to get Journeyman/Expert/Master? Does this include fortifications (from armor/rings/items)?
I’m finding some good ass stuff in these oblivion gates. a light armor shield that does 17% spell reflection (and values at 7k), a ring of permanent 20% chameleon, and a ring of night eye - I guess I’m going to keep my rings and switch them out for whatever seems appropriate. It’d suck to have the entire game in blue with nighteye (which makes me wonder - is that how it is for the khajjit?), but really useful not to worry about casting/potions in dungeons.
I realized that after I posted, but when I went to hit the edit button (the next day)…there was no edit button.
When did the SDMB steal my edit button?! ;j
Anyway, you want to minimize your major skills…let them start as close to 25 as possible. 7 skills starting at 25 = 52 levels (and you have 5 ‘free’ points that you can use to start above level 25). Get that 6th point, though, and you will be stuck at level 51.
Another question: When I break into someone’s house, I can sneak around inside opening chests/cupboards etc., but after I’ve taken like 4 things total, a guard suddenly appears out of nowhere and wants to haul me off. Kinda cheesy since there’s no one in the house, and I’m sure no one saw me break in.
Does this go away with higher sneak rank or what? Are there set limits on how many things you can lift from a house before guards are telepathically alerted?
How about pickpocketing? Is it actually possible to pickpocket someone without them immediately turning around and calling you out?
You haven’t been able to edit posts since I’ve been hear, which has been years.
I’m not sure what’s happening. I’ve stolen hundreds of things and never had that problem. Is your sneak icon dark, showing you’re not being observed? I’ve only gotten in trouble when someone observed me steal.
By the way, does Chameleon actually do anything outside of sneak bonus?
Yeah, sneak icon is dark. Besides the fact that I’m in an empty house. I’m only apprentice sneak (maybe 40?) so perhaps I just need to get better. It’s weird cause I have to choose what to steal since if I get too greedy the telepathic police show up
