Two weeks without meat

Two weeks vegetarian. Well I ate grilled fish yesterday because someone cooked it for me but other than that, I am meatfree for the first time in my life. You know what? I feel better.

Better is what way? Why’d you decide to do this?

Good job! What made you decide to become a vegetarian?

I was a vegetarian for about two years. I didn’t find it hard to not eat meat, but there were constant difficulties with friends and family. Also, I just plain wasn’t doing it right. I was eating lots of processed or junk food. I eventually gave it up because I had lost too much weight, plus I was tired of feeling like the only vegetarian in the world.

I plan to go back to it if there ever comes a day when I don’t have to cook for others.

I feel better because I don’t feel heavy and full all the time, I have a lot more energy now that my metabolism seems to have kicked in (to the point of being damn near bouncy at my band rehearsal last Friday.) My gut is distending less every day and I sleep better than I did. I sweated a lot the first few days but thats over. My breath is better too.

Question; since you have given up meat, are you also eating less bread and other processed foods?

I never really ate much of processed foods to begin with, but eat a lot of beans now. And I don’t have the bean problem either.

I can’t eat carbs due to diabetes. If I cut out protein, all I’d have left to consume is fat and fiber.

Deep fried green beans anyone?

If you want to keep the veg-head train a rollin’ you could get yourself a package of Boca Burgers or Morningstar Farms brand (NOT Gardenburger brand as they are vile) veggie burgers, and be sure to cook them on a BBQ.

You may be suprised how tasty they are, and they are also not too heavy or overfilling.

It’s been over 15 years for me, and I dont miss meat in the least (though I love seafood).

I was a vegetarian for two years, but I ate milk and eggs so it was not hard to do. I didn’t feel any better or worse when I was eating or not eating meat.

Boca black bean burgers are delicious.

I typically get the original Boca Burgers, but I will be sure to give the black bean variety a shot next time…

I went without eating meat for the month of January. I felt no different. :dubious:

A bit disappointing.

Good work.

Thanks, I think you just answered my “What to give up for Lent” quandary. I’ve been saying for ages that I need to try the veggie diet again. 30 of the last 31 Lent seasons have led to a permanent change of habits for me. (giving up coffee didn’t take . . .)

I like the Boca burgers and the Boca hot dogs aren’t bad too.
