Yep, I got married yesterday afternoon. We paid for the license on Friday, waited the 5 day waiting period, then had a 5 minute ceremony at the courthouse on Wednesday. Just me, my new hubby, the court commissioner and two random employees as witnesses. I have to say, I really preferred this over my big church wedding 13 years ago.
Congratulations! I hope that my next one (if there is, and let’s not get into how many that will be) can be as simple…I suppose it partly depends on who the lucky (again, let’s not get into a debate on how lucky) girl is.
Yeah, I was lucky that he didn’t want a big wedding even though this is his first (and hopefully only!!) wedding.
The worst part was telling my parents afterwards…
Francis: “Hey mom, guess what I did today! I got married!”
Mom: “Hmm…Well, I hope it turns out better than the last one.”
Francis: “Thanks, mom.”
Had the small-scale thing here too. Well, kind of. After throwing a major engagement bash (the kind of low-pressure shindig with no input from anyone but the restaurant) things got a bit complicated (planning, buying a house, starting a business…). A year after we got engaged a friends had flown in to visit and asked what happened to the wedding plans. The response was “tell you what, you fly with us to Vegas this weekend, and we’ll get married right now.”
Wow! I guess I kind of understand that…my folks haven’t really expressed any interest in meeting this one yet…I hope they’re not of the mind that well, this one probably won’t work out, either.
Congrats! I also got remarried just under 13 years after the first time. Not quite as small as yours, but a tiny Vegas chapel with eight guests – close enough.
Congratulations!!! I’m so happy for you! My husband and I got married at the courthouse and went across the street to Trackside (OTB at Arlington Park) for the reception - he hit the Trifecta before the first round of drinks arrived and it covered the entire shindig! It was wonderful - and I hope you and your husband have years of happiness!
We eloped to Reno one weekend. It was just us, random priest dude at the chapel, and de baby in my belly. The other child (age 9) was in Texas visiting grandparents.
She was furious when we told her because 1) we didn’t get her “blessings” and 2) She wasn’t there to be a part of it.
We’re not really going to have a reception. Maybe towards the end of summer we’ll have a party at the house and invite some friends and family, but it won’t be anything formal.
