I finally took the plunge and bought a laptop today. It’s the first one I’ve ever owned and I am already loving it! Even though it’s only 6(ish) pm, my daughter and I are already piled up in the bed, she watching Despicable Me, and I typing away on my laptop. How nice it will be to be able to do homework from the comfort of my bed instead of hunched over my crappy desk with the uncomfortable chair in the living room!
In case anyone cares, it’s an hp Pavilion dv7 and it is super-fast (especially compared to my old Dell desktop that had only 512 of RAM!)
I already had a wireless network in the house so we could watch Netflix on the Wii. My desktop is also plugged into the router (with help from some Dopers a few months ago).
I did the same thing last April, and as I type this I have a Double Stuf Oreo balanced on my chest. The garbage hasn’t been taken out, the litter box needs emptying, and the sink is full of dishes.
Kinki’s got it right - I got my first laptop a year and a half ago, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to desktop. You know you can take it with you into the bathroom too, eh?
And budget to upgrade your bed while your at it! Our memory foam bed is the best as worst thing we’ve ever owned! Best because it’s so damned comfortable, Worst because it’s impossible to get out of it!
