Maybe because hey, let’s kill Obama. Also the leader was a Republican.
And any of several mainstreams, for that matter.
Convicted of what? I doubt the Feds will spend the money to develop a case of treason once the idiots are convicted of the double murder they are going on trial for this week.
Especially considering that one of the members has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in return for his testimony against the others.
A double homicide?
Well, there are more than a few LWs deeply disappointed in him . . . but I doubt these guys are among them.
And the fact that this is a conspiracy within the Army. Not a high-level conspiracy involving generals, just a few nutjob soldiers (how are these guys not screened out by psychological tests before they join?!), but still disturbing.
Yeah, has the army not heard of Voight-Kampff or something?
No it’s not. It’s a young sergeant and a few privates who committed a criminal act. And they weren’t very good about it. That’s why we have Levenworth. Soldiers commit crimes just like any other segment of the population only at a lower rate. Not any more disturbing than other violent crimes. Dumb privates do dumb things.
Why did they commit the crime? It’s no secret.
He might be right: Aguigui bears the same name and a striking resemblence to a page at the 2008 Republican Convention.
Four men overthrowing the US governement?
I have to grant that to terrorists : they’re an optimistic bunch.
(Frankly, I’d need more evidence than that to believe that this plot was real)
Killing two people to “take care of loose ends” isn’t enough for you?
[magnificent seven]I admire your notion of fair odds, mister.[/magnificent seven]
I, too, am am excited about the upcoming fall TV lineup.
Spending $87,000 on weapons (if true) isn’t “idiots with delusions.” Sure, it’s an impossibility (for them) to overthrow the government or take over a military base, but I’m sure they would have done a lot of harm with those weapons. That’s not delusional. I’ll give you the idiot part, though.
:dubious: Yes, in a soldier, I should think conspiracy (however laughable) to overthrow the government is a more disturbing crime than any other, including rape, murder, or spying for the enemy. Sometimes governments are overthrown by their own soldiers, you know – who are always armed and ready to do it – and it almost always turns out to be a Very Bad Thing, regardless of the form of the government overthrown.
FWIW, Private Isaac Aguigui was a page at the 2008 Republican National Convention.
The idea that they are left-wingers is based solely upon their distinctive tattoos. Methinks that evidence is thinner. Kudos to Braingluton for his perspicacity.
ETA: Woops, Punoqllads caught this upthread.
It should be taken seriously as in they need to be punished. For the conspiracy and the murder. However the rest is just delusions of grandeur. This is getting play because they’ve decided to Brand them as domestic terrorists. Even though their plot went nowhere. As opposed to Nidal Hassan who they refuse to call a terrorist and instead call it a case of work place violence.
I sure am curious about how his wife died. Aguigui’s, I mean.
That Tim McVeigh thinks he is going to overthrow the government, all by himself . . . delusions of grandeur . . . . harmless idiot.
