UEFA Euro 2024

You can’t count the Germans out until 5 or 10 minutes after the match’s end.

Watching the game here in NL, now going on to extra time, talking it out with my sisters via WhatsApp … and having a mini heart attack. My nerves…!

I feel you, I swore after the World Cup that I would stop getting nervous for futbol… yesterday night my ECG was impersonating a rollercoaster.

For me it’s even worse, I only can watch such games in the company of others, alone here on my couch I’m a nervous wreck and only follow the game on the live ticker on kicker.de. I know it’s crazy, there’s even a real-time animation of the game there, but I just don’t dare to turn on my TV.

ETA: yeah, and that’s why…1-2.

I’ll have to revisit the handball rules; based on my understanding that should have been a pk. Would have been unfortunate because I think he was being mindful, but still made his body bigger.

Spain scores 2 minutes from the end of the extra time - 2-1

Lol, Ferran Torres is such a scrub. I can’t believe Barca wasted so much money on him.

Oh the pain.

I had been sure we’d win a penalty shoot-out, but no dice…

I only hope most of the other games are of that quality.

You realise England and France are still in it, right? :smirk:

That’s what I meant. England has been impressive. Didn’t realize you could complete so many passes without a shot on net.

I also like Portugal, but a light breeze would blow Ronaldo over if he was inside the 18. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I would have called that handball. Tough loss for Germany.

Same.

It was not a handball IMO - the players arm was not in an unnatural position. I would not like it if those sort of things were given as handball.

I referred soccer for years. The old rule with intent was much clearer, so I prefer that. A lot of referees would have called that a handball, and many have, but I can certainly see the arguments against it.

The new handball rules are an absolute mess.

And they seemingly change them every year. I’ve long lost track of what is and isn’t handball.

Definitely an example of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’.

Because handballs are so important in determining game results, the rule must be as unambiguous as possible. The current rules are very unclear; different good referees would disagree at an unacceptable rate.

France and Portugal: a relatively good and even game a third in.

I’m sure I will call it too soon (he most probably will score the decisive goal in the 90th minute with a spectacular bicycle kick), but what I’ve seen from Ronaldo this tournament so far, he’s lost his mojo (or in other words, is just too old) for this level and is totally wasted in the Portuguese squad. It’s like they’re playing with 10,5 players.

ETA: watch out, now he’ll be kicking his 87th free kick into the clouds in a row.

ETA2: heck, he really left the free kick to another player, Fernandes, for a change. Didn’t help much.
