And now another Portuguese player is very lucky to not get carded for an obvious simulation…
I think “intent” is a horrible rule because 99.9% of things we all agree are handballs are not deliberate. Basically only things like Suarez vs Ghana in 2010 are actually intentional, the rest are just the player not consciously tucking their arms behind their back.
My main issue with the current situation is that the laws have been changed a lot + there is an asymmetry between what’s called when attacking vs defending. IMHO, that shouldn’t matter.
Not a good game now. I’m not even sure if I should be glad that there’ll be extra time.
I went for 1-1 in my predictions league. I have no idea why. It had 0-0 written all over it. France are like a turbo-charged version of England. As in, slightly better quality, but even more boring.
I was about to make exactly the same comment. France have space to counter attack into however which England haven’t had so far.
Looks like both sides are happy for penalties
Over 465 minutes of football since France scored a goal from open play in any football game.
Around 350 minutes since Portugal scored a goal of any kind.
This tournament has been mostly absolute rubbish.
It’s gotten me wishing for a rematch of some game from decades ago (not in Europe) where both teams were bribed to lose and hence each scored 30+ own-goals.
LOL, that French guy wearing a shirt with a crying Ronaldo picture on it.
Completely undeserved. France have probably been worse than even England have been in this tournament.
But getting through is all that matters.
Well, from two disappointing teams, I wanted the diver kings to be out, so I’m fine with the result.
Whatever the rule is, it should be so clear it can be consistently applied. There should be little room for subjective interpretation.
Hopefully Canada-Venezuela will be less of a snooze fest. But the Magic Eight Ball says otherwise.
I am fine with both results. And also how they came to be.
Germany - Spain was an interesting, good game, both teams wanted to win. I and my neighbour enjoyed it, altough we supported opposite teams. France - Portugal was just dull.
I disagree, I thought France-Portugal was quite exciting, with lots of end-to-end attacks. The problem was, as soon as a player (on either side) got in position to cross or shoot, it was invariably poor. Neither deserved the win.
Somehow I’ve allowed myself to remain completely unaware of Raphael Leao’s talents but goodness he was a dynamo on the flank yesterday.
Still bummed about this. Müller said it was likely his last international match.
Most probably also Manu Neuer’s last international, Kroos’ definitely.
England 0 0 Switzerland at half time. BBC pundits praising England’s performance so far. I guess I must’ve watched a different match. It has been boring yet again and I can’t remember either keeper making a single, even regulation, save.
This has been incredibly boring.
