Tommorw is the big day. UFC 91 has several intresting fights, but the match I am tuning in to see is Couture vs. Lesner. Its a classic match-up of a younger, stronger, fighter against an older, more agile, fighter.
Brock Lesner is a monster. He is a 265lb wrecking machine. A former college wrestling champion his record of 2 and 1 is deceptive. While Frank Mir did defeat him, Lesner dominated the fight until moments before it ended.
Randy Couture is one of the most decorated veterans to ever enter the octagon. He is also a wrestler, but unilike the newcomer Lesner, Couture has eleven years of experince in mixed martial arts. He is an agile fighter with excellent wrestling and very good striking.
I love Couture and I hope he wins, but I predict a victory for Lesner. Couture is an incredible fighter, but he is fourteen years older and forty pounds lighter than Lesner. I predict that Lesner will charge down on Couture with a flurry of strikes and a takedown attempt. Couture will attempt to keep the fight on its feet by sticking and moving and using his excellent striking in the clinch to prevent a takedown. This will work for a while as both fighters will take some damage. I predict that eventually one of Lenser’s takedown attempts will succeed. Lesner will unload a barrage of vicious strikes and the ref will quickly end it. Lesner by TKO in the second round.
Lesner will not have the belt for long. I think any of several younger, heavier, fighers with excellent submission skills could take Lesner. Nogueira , Mir (who already beat Lesner once), and the legendary Fedor are all good candidates to eventually defeat Lesner.
