Agreed, but my one true viral video beloved mystery woman will always be Amber Lamps.
I’ve never been a fan of confirmation dialog boxes, but I really think uploads to YouTube should at least require something like this:
[Upload Video]
You understand that the video you’re uploading could be “out there” forever, even if you change your mind and delete it, right? Are you sure this is something you won’t mind your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, kids, extended family, boss, pastor, future boss, future husband, wife, nextdoor neighbor, snotty barista at Starbucks, random people in elevators, etc., seeing and knowing it was you? For the rest of your life?
[OK] [Cancel Upload]
Okay, but seriously—you understand that by uploading this, you might be destroying your life almost overnight? You could end up on CNN, Fox, TMZ, Tosh.0, and become the subject of a hilarious and/or simply humiliating Internet meme? Are you sure you wish to continue?
[Yes] [No]

I’m giving you one last chance— if this is a clip you doing or saying something really stupid like smoking salvia and falling on your face, or committing a crime, or just being a jackass tool in some way or another—PLEASE reconsider the implications of what you’re about to do. Are you SURE you’re ready to deal with the repercussions of this stupid goddamned video?*
[Yes] [No]

Well, at least we tried.**
UPLOAD IN PROGRESS…
What? No **Adam Smith **and the invisible hand of the free market jokes yet?
The guy seems to be an insufferable prick. If he carried this same personality into the office, it wouldn’t surprise me if this simply gave Vante the opening they were looking for to can his ass. I’d wager there was much rejoicing as he exited the building.
Good point. His smarmy attitude and tone of voice and “I’m better than you” attitude did seem to come quite naturally to him. I think Chik Fil A corporate should offer him a job that pays just the same as his old job. Then he might realize why that poor lady was REALLY working there.
I’m curious, what makes them ridiculously overpriced? A chicken sandwich from Wendy’s or McDonald’s will set you back about $4. Chick-fil-A doesn’t seem any more expensive to me.
Holy guacamole, yeh. I’d read the story but not watched the video till just now, and I couldn’t even make it to the end – I just wanted to punch the smarmy whiny smug bastard right in his asinine face.
He is EXACTLY the kind of “I’m so superior to you ignorant slaves of ignorance” caricature that makes people despise lefties/liberals/progressives/whatever the hell the current label is.
Re-straint. (n) /riˈstrānt/
- not spilling a drink of water in a loudmouth’s lap.
While the guy was an ass, how is what he did grounds for firing? Is it because he was a ugh-up executive or something?
Also, the girl couldn’t have handled it any better. Without saying the words, she communicated, “Uh, are you fucking kidding me you giant douchebag? I’m here making minimum wage so I can have money so I can go the movies with my friends and buy some new clothes for when school starts. And you come in here ordering you free fucking water with your camera and sense of righteousness so you can feel you struck a blow for what you think is right. So, do you want your FREE WATER(!) or not Mr. Oh-And-I’m-Not-Gay!!!?” Beautiful.
Perfect!
Love it. But even if they had that, I wonder if theer’d be any fewer postings.
Exactly. He was a CFO for his the company. I guess company officers are held th a higher standard. By all accounts, he’s a well educated (MBA) individual too.
Oh, and we have a name. The heroine’s name is **Rachel **.
Great. I want a button, "Mr. Smith, I hope you enjoyed your free water. - Rachel
As far as his firing, what are the odds that he has a case against his employer for punishing him for exercising his right to free speech?
I used to work in a call center. Things changed from day to day. Policy would be one thing Monday, something else Tuesday. One day, the policy changed to a situation where the customer was really getting screwed. I posted about it on this board. Some poster responded, “That is awful. If you work for a company like that, you are awful too”.
That’s fucking silly. No way could I decide to walk away from a job that I was good at (attempting to help the customer even though the policy screwed them; I was very good at delivering the news in a way that the customer was soothed)…or walk away from a job that was paying the bills in a shaky economy over a policy that could change in another month or so. This woman is working a sucky job. Something tells me that she isn’t in the position to just up and find a job that will pay her bills and also always match every political and sociological idea she has. That’s unrealistic.
And I don’t agree with you that folks are responding because the cashier was young and pretty and female. The guy is clearly a self-important arrogant, clueless ass, sucking his own dick over his superior liberal ideas. That kind of shit works folks’ nerves.
Zero. He still has a right to free speech, but he never had a right to the job.
Well let’s suppose that your employer was proudly evil. He’s interviewed on the news and proudly proclaims that he intends to keep engaging in his evil course of conduct. And let’s further suppose that there’s essentially nothing you can do in your job to ameliorate that evil. Do you still believe that you should not catch any shit for being an Agent of Evil?
So you think peoples’ reactions would have been basically the same if he had confronted an 35-year-old male paunchy assistant store manager?
Possibly. It would all depend on the guy’s demeanor and how he handles the interaction. You’d also have the, “The poor guy…he’s 35 and still working at a drive through.”
Joining the consensus. The guy is a dick.
Well, he does have an MBA.
True, but he’s talking like he’s a tax lawyer or sumptin.
