Ugh, help me with my artist's statement/website, please.

I’ve just gotten my art website up and running, but the “about the artist” section is just killing me. There is something about writing about myself that just squicks me out. I actually dislike artists statements in general–they seem to be full of boring platitudes (as is mine) that no one cares about–but I feel like I should have something in there. I’m thinking the third paragraph just needs to be cut, maybe. And perhaps the second and forth, too. What do you think? Also, should I put a photo of myself on that page?

Any thoughts on the website in general? Is it working correctly on your screen (I’m new to this web design stuff)? Do you see any typos I need to fix?

Thanks so much for your input, this is driving me crazy.

Reads perfectly fine to me. It’s neither self indulgent nor too modest. And it flows well.

But if you’re not happy about it, just consider it a work in progress, and update it when you are inspired to. Sometimes I will wake up in the morning and know exactly what I need to change in something I’ve written.

However, I would suggest a technical change. It’s not good practice for web pages to have spaces or capital letters in the URL; instead of naming it “About the Artist.html” it ought to be “about_the_artist.html”.

Thanks. I’ll get that changed.

Actually, I just realized that just about every page (60+ pages with all the painting pages) is like that. Why is the space/caps thing bad form? Is it worth the bother of changing them all?

It is NOT good for art to be pretty! Good art should HURT people with its wretched ugliness!

And stop letting the paint boss you around. I mean, it didn’t go to the art supply store and buy you, did it? No! Make it rue the day that it even thought about defying your righteous and divine will.

In all seriousness, the only big goof I noticed was at the bottom, where “copywrite” should be “copyright.”

Gah! I cannot believe I did that. Thank you; fixed.

Some browsers can’t read pages when written that way. Also when uploading them to the server via FTP, it may change the filenames to fit the format, so all the links will then stop working.

It may not break the site at all, these days, as modern browsers take the practice into account, but it is technically the wrong way to do it.

OK, thanks. I’ll work on it. Any opinions on whether I should put a photo of myself on the page?
