I’d just like to add that I bow my head to all our fallen, they’ve all made incredible sacrifices to serve us.
Phuck, last time.
*“for us”, not “to serve us”.
You know, I’ve been reading about the controversy over the release of photos of soldiers’ coffins, and whether seeing those pictures has an impact on attitudes toward the war. While the pictures are clearly sad, they didn’t have a tremendous emotional impact on me.
But hearing about the death of this one good man has me completely undone. I’m not a football fan, and had never heard of Pat Tillman before 9/11. I do remember his decision to give up his football contract to join the military, and his death has hit me more personally than any of the other casualties. His sacrifice matters to me. He made a brave decision at great personal cost and I’m bowing my head right along with you, World Eater, not only for Pat Tillman, but for all of the other members of our armed forces who have put themselves in harm’s way.
Perhaps because his story was more well known then someothers. Also the circumstances are somewhat unusual.
