If you’re making a up a whole persona on a message board, lying about your location is dumb because it’s trivially easy for board mods and admins to check it and for posters to ask questions based on the details. If you say you’re a guy in a wheelchair, it’s difficult for me to find out if you are telling the truth. If you say you’re posting from the remote mountains of Pakistan, I check check that easily.
LOL That caused a bit of an issue with the Everquest account that I shared with mrAru - he logged in from an internet cafe in Tromso Norway about 15 minutes after I logged out from Connecticut, so they banned the account for sharing, I had to send them paperwork showing he was in the Navy and deployed there to get it unbanned. [Later when I started working as a GM the GM I dealt with was also on my server and he would tease me about it.] <I should point out that splitting an account with a spouse or kid is OK with most online games>
Well, Marley’s an admin, so maybe has more info than I do. (IP addresses, etc.) But I did a little sleuthing around the time of the Umkay incident and was pretty fairly convinced that she was actually from Canada. I can’t say it was definitive, but there was a girl posting drama on a job forum (and I believe it was her actual personal information, there was an email address that matched up to a Myspace account that looked legit) that was suspicious to me. This girl was 20 at the time, and had worked as an in-home assistant to a disabled guy, was fired from that position (reading between the lines, because she was inappropriately interested in him) and was looking for a new job in the industry, in the Edmonton area. It sounded a lot like our little former Munchie, though I could be wrong.
Anyway, if I am correct, then it’s unlikely that Dave on Wheels is the same troll. Maybe a copycat?
The internet is big and there pretty much has to be more than one person making up stuff like this. I’d say there is a good chance that’s a different person from umkay. I’ve never really been convinced she had a devotee fixation on quadriplegics, for whatever that’s worth. It fits the facts as we know them, but my feeling was just that she’s a liar who liked attention. That’s not the only lie she tells, it’s just (perhaps) her most effective one. After all she did start pretending to be someone else after we banned umkay.
