Ugliest Car?

My vote is the AMC Matador.

My family had a white '62 Corvair. It looked like a bathtub and rarely ran.

Statistically, there should have been an angle from which they photographed that car that did not make it look fugly.

But … no.

Good submission

When I see a vehicle and think “ugly”, it is usually because the styling theme was not carried through. It’s like listening to a melody and hearing a sudden discord. So even a four-door family sedan can avoid being ugly

As an example of styling discord, I give you the BMW i3. It looks like the rear door window was salvaged from another vehicle and pasted onto this one.

One author proposed the Nash Airflyte. Compared it to a face - as a person with clenched teeth.

It’s ugly, alright, but I don’t have a problem with the grill. It’s more that the designers seem to have tried really hard to make the whole thing look like an inverted bathtub.

And without fenders, wouldn’t the wheels and their housings get quickly covered in dirt?

I had the plastic panels. I liked the look better because otherwise they were similar to everything else. IIRC even though yours was all one color (and there were all one color besides black of course), the panels were still there. They were painted, but they were plastic. I’m not clear why they used them. Weight savings? Didn’t need painting if they scratched? IDK.

Yeah, ugh.

Rather than further hijack this thread, I’ll start a new one.

What was Chevrolet thinking when they redesigned the Camero from this:

To this:

In my opinion, they changed one of the coolest cars to one of the goofiest.

They had better drugs back then.

I find the latest Lexus products’ huge grilles to be fugly…

I haven’t paid too much attention but has it metastasized to Toyotas?

To some extent, but they look better on the Toyotas. I largely agree.

How to disappoint eight people at the same time.

You turned a Delorean… into a stretch limo?! (as Marty McFly)

If we’re going that route…

Well, there was nothing in the OP about it having to be a production line car. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yes to both – it has somewhat metastasized to Toyotas (unfortunately) but isn’t nearly as ugly. I’ve generally liked most Toyota designs; Lexus, not so much. Both are a fine line of cars, and Lexus is allegedly well worth the money, but damn, they just don’t get the styling right. It’s either odd-looking or just boring, not the stylish look you’d expect in that price range.

This 2022 Camry at least looks better than that Lexus SUV, although you can see somewhat of a family resemblance in the grill design.

The guy who created that DeLorean limo has created other things out of wrecked cars.

I can’t seem to find anything about what powers that limo but I hope it’s not the stock V6 or it would have trouble getting out if its own way.

There are probably many people who like the style of the Polestar 2. I find it a little bare.

If you’re in a minor accident, is fixing the front end going to be more expensive? Not just a bumper, but the grille as well?

Yes, I have that impression as well. And it’s cheaper than a Mercedes or BMW at starting base price. That’s probably partly why.
