Ugly Betty - most convoluted plot ever?

My wife was out last night and didn’t get to see the season’s finale. This a.m. she asked me for a brief recap of what had happened/how it ended. Little did she know how much she was asking! It must have taken me 5 minutes to briefly mention the most significant developments to the main characters:

Hildy’s son fed nuts to the lead Tony, and got part - sang during ending montage;
Hildy’s fiance got shot/killed in hold-up;
Betty told BF she wanted to fight for him, he told her he had broken up w/ Charlie;
Betty cooks dinner for him, but Charlie shows up and says she’s pregnant, BF agrees to go back to AZ(?) w/ Charlie;
Betty goes to dentist (Kim Chenoweth co-stars) and learns Charlie was dating dentist, who may be baby’s dad;
Betty was going to stop him as in chick flick, but cops tell her of Hildy’s fiance’s death;
Elder Meade gives Wilhelmina fugly ring;
They plan on wedding on specific date, also chosen by Fabia (sp?);
Wilhelmina gives gay assistant to Fabia for date, then trades back for him;
(Funny montage to “The Way We Were” and he hugs her which they both deny happened);
Blond receptionist and Scottish seamstress get locked in secret room, get drunk, find out receptionist is Faye’s daughter;
Meade’s wife escapes from jail;
Daniel tells fake story of rescuing girl scout, gets revealed as liar, gets hammered, Alexis drives him to hospital in dad’s car, which had brake lines cut and they crash.

I THINK that is MOST of the high points. MAN what a lot of balls up in the air.

(I really didn’t want Hildy’s betrothed to die.)

–opening the possibility that Amanda and Daniel are half-siblings.

EEEEWWWW!

Holy moly! I won’t be able to watch the ep for awhile, but now I can hardly wait.

That’s awful about Hildy’s fiance/Justin’s dad!

I guess we won’t have to worry about them having enough story for a second season. :slight_smile:

Also, in case you missed it, the person who plays the “Betty” character in “La Fea Mas Bella” (one of the telenovela versions) was the mean girl in the orthodontist’s office.

Amanda & Daniel are not half siblings (I’ve seen too many soap operas to know that the incest angle is always a red herring. Someone’s adopted or has some secret half/step/something parent that will be revealed at the last second.)

Good finale.

Was that freaky-looking dental hygeinist Angélica Vale (La Fea Mas Bella)?

Kristin Chenoweth

Marc, who Fabia calls “Marco”

Amanda & Christina, respectively

You forgot to add that the brakes were cut because of the hit Alexis took out on her father. Also, Daniel tried to quit the magazine altogether.

Yeah, Santos got the shaft. :frowning:

You could also add that Papa Suarez is still in Mexico.

Context disregarded for a moment, that visual you just gave me is going to fuel a lot of fantasies…

I’ll…be in my bunk…

It has to be said that Amanda is hot, hot HOT!!

Amanda could easily be Fey’s daughter without being Bradford Meade’s daughter. It’s not difficult to imagine that Fey may have had other relationships. Hmmm. Maybe Fey and Charlie had the same dentist?

Not only a convoluted plot, but the most egregious case of false advertising in a TV show name since America’s Funniest Home Videos. :cool:

Hilda should never have let him watch All About Eve on the late show. And I’m sorry, but there is no way that Justin would ever need lessons on how to snap.

What a great episode.

Holy crap, I watched it this morning since that was the first chance I got (not that I haven’t been trying) - I basically sobbed through the last five minutes. I avoid spoilers for this show like the plague, and I had NO idea about Santos. Ana Ortiz absolutely broke my heart - I’ve really been loving the Hilda and Santos angle. I just showed the last five minutes to my husband (he doesn’t watch regularly like I do), and I bawled through the whole thing again.

GREAT episode all around (okay, the Betty/Henry/Charlie stuff is pissing me off a bit). Amanda and Christina were fabulous - “You can kiss me now.” . If Amanda is Bradford and Fey’s daughter, I wonder if Daniel isn’t Bradford’s son? That could be interesting.

The ONLY nitpick I have with the episode is Daniel/Alexis. Okay, Mead Publishing is located in midtown, correct? Why in the hell were they driving on a winding country road to get to the hospital? Wouldn’t it make more sense to go to a hospital in Manhattan, like St. Vincent’s? I was really, really annoyed with that part.

it was really too crowded, but they had so many storylines going through the season.

Justin was great as Tony. What a voice! Did anyone notice that they had an Hispanic Tony and an Anglo Maria? The montage was tragic.

And I love 'Nacio Suarez. What a great dad.

StG

When Alexis asked for the car, she specifically said she was taking him to Pinewood (?) which I assume is a private detox centre, I think the one Mrs. Meade was at in earlier episodes. It’s reasonable that it would be outside of the city. It would make a certain amount of sense to go there rather than a regular hospital given the situation (though I’m sure there must be some private/confidential hospitals within the city itself).

The last five minutes nearly had me in tears too… Hildy’s reaction makes it seem pretty obvious that Santos is dead; it seems crazy to spend that much time on that reaction if he were still alive in an ER somewhere.

There was nothing in the episode that indicated that Amanda’s father is Bradford. Only Fey as the mother was mentioned off the birth certificate.

Oh, I know. I’m just adding to what **Krokodil ** said up-thread. I don’t think they’d go that way with the story.

mnemosyne, I remember hearing her say that, but if someone’s ODing, why in the hell wouldn’t you just take them to the closest ER to have their stomach pumped, and THEN take them to a rehab center? You run the risk of the person who’s ODed, oh, I don’t know…dying? And with traffic in the city, I don’t know that I’d want to take the chance.
