My wife has a new TV man crush and it is Freddy Rodriguez, whom she absolutely adores on this show (she never saw his great work in 6FU). Naturally, the show left us hanging on which choice Betty makes, but neither of us can imagine displacing our heroine to Tuscon (you’d have to change the name of the show to Boring Betty).
I tell you, there must be an aging picture of Freddy Rodriguez in his attic. He actually looks younger now than he did on Six Feet Under. Although shaving his head did age him a little.
Yeah…Gio is hot, cares about her, doesn’t have a baby mama and is local.
When Henry said there was “no reason not to” move to Tuscon I was all “uhm…except for her career and her FAMILY”?! Get a fucking grip, Henry.
Charlie will always be a fly in the ointment, yeah. I hope she doesn’t go. Then again, like Law & Order, NYC is a “character” on this show so they really can’t make her leave for good. Can they?
I think she chose herself and is going to Rome alone (on Daniel’s dime) to find herself and her voice. I’m betting that’s going to take up the first three or four episodes of Season 3.
Another alternative is that she’s moving out on her own, still in NYC. The problem with this is that she has no job at the moment…Daniel is OUT at Mode, and so’s her position. I know Daniel will be back, but for the time being she’s unemployed. Thus, her taking the all-expense-paid trip to Rome.
Like ArchiveGuy’s wife, my new TV man crush is Freddy Rodriguez. Gio is seriously hot. I definitely think she should choose him but if she doesn’t, she can send him my way.
But Gio for a lifepartner, definitely, all the way. When Henry
1- stood up Betty because his baby-mama was cramping when she was so obviously faking
2- stood her up again to do yoga with her (and there were no other men there as partners)
3- doesn’t seem to realize what her career and family mean to her (I’m sure she can make as much money in Tucson and I’m sure it’s a lovely city, but how’s a top fashion magazine in NYC look on a resume compared to a Tucson paper?)
he was out of the running altogether. Gio adores her, he’s funny/quirky/ambitious, and while he can drive you nuts she doesn’t have to marry him and have 12 kids, she can just date him for a while. Henry’s beautiful (at least when he undresses) but he’s waaaaaaaaay too much of a wuss and that will hurt her more in the long run than if he was an inconsiderate good ol’ boy.
I’m glad that Wilhelmina’s back at MODE; it just didn’t work with her and Marc separated from the pack. I’d like an update on scruffy hunk Cliff though (and ideally a bedroom scene- c’mon prods, you know how many gays are in your fan base!)
Is it me or is the show kind of wobbling a bit since the Writer’s Strike?
And they’re moving production to NYC next season. So far it’s always been LA based with all street scenes and obviously NYC landmarks greenscreened in. I wonder if that will affect quality at all. Not being intimately familiar with either city I never had problems suspending disbelief.
Next season’s cliffhanger will probably have to do with [damn… what’s her name? Scottish surrogate baby mama chick?] kidnapping the child. Or perhaps finding out the doctor substituted his own sperm.
I love Judith Light’s character on this, incidentally. Might be interesting to bring on Carol Burnett as her scheming sister though (or even as her mom- or as, ooh… Wilhelmina’s mom [no reason she can’t be white]).
I still want them to bring back Octavia Spencer as insane immigration worker Constance, though. To me she was comedy gold, and there’s any number of ways they can work her back in. (She could be like Frank Nelson’s “YESSSSSSS!?” character on Sanford & Son.)
There IS speculation that Betty will end up meeting Daniel and Daniel II in Europe, though, as they’re there dealing with the aftermath of Daniel II’s mother’s death.
When they introduced Daniel Too I was glad it was a kid. When I’d read the plotline I was afraid they’d use it to introduce a teen hunk fathered when Daniel was a teen hunk.
Justin’s gotten so tall it’s hard to remember that he’s still (both character and actor) only about 13 or so. I was wondering if they were going to address his coming out this season, but he’s still a little young. (I think it would not only be interesting but true-to-life if Hilda flips out when he does; I’ve known guys who were at least that obvious whose parents seemingly never suspected.)
I think it’s pretty established that Hilda knows…she’s the one who had to rein in Justin’s father. And she was a little taken aback when Justin started to act…masculine…this season.
Didn’t Mark and his mother have their drama at the Suarez house for reasons I cant remember? I thought it demonstrated well the contrast between the families. I cant see Hilda freaking out because her son is gay, but freaking out because he chose to come out as a teenager - if the writers actually go that direction - have they ever explicitly said or shown that Justin is attracted to men? I would rather see Justin as straight, but still a fashion and drama diva. Just to fuck with the stereotypes of all sides.
In regards to the OP, at the beginning of the season I would have said Henry, no question. But they did great character development this season with both of them, and Gio has taken the lead. You know she will not go to Tuscon. But I don’t see her running of to Rome either. Its too much too soon. If they had dated for a year, I would believe it, not this quickly. Its gonna be a long summer.
I am completely straight, but I loved the scenes with Cliff and Mark and the show needs to bring him back. I liked seeing Mark as a complete character and not just Wilhelmina’s flying monkey.
I like the storyline with Hilda and Coach Diaz too. I like to think she realized he does care about her since he told her he was ‘married’ before anything too serious got started. I get the vibe that most guys in her neighborhood wouldn’t be that honest. But we just had a storyline about a crazy ex and I dont want to see a repeat of that, so I am interested in how that plays out this fall also.
Totally. They’re making him cartoonishly evil and stupid and in the past he was never evil or stupid. (Shallow, self-consumed, petty, snotty, obnoxious, and vapid perhaps, but not evil or stupid, and occasionally, as with his mom or Justin, you saw a heart and a bit of substance beneath the bitter queen.) Maybe now that he’s back at Mode he’ll “get better” development wise.
One thing that’s been consistent about Wilhelmina is that while she’s an evil ice queen she IS great at her job and really did deserve/got screwed over for the Editor-in-Chief position when Daniel’s dad appointed him. This is something they may need to remind the viewers of so that she herself doesn’t become too Cruella de Ville as one dimensional characters are neither interesting nor funny.
Have they ever said what Ignacio does for a living? He wears a jumpsuit of some sort in some episodes, though his training/background was as a chef (or at least as a cook, though I guess NYC has a few of those to spare). Evidently, and perhaps due to the writer’s strike, they just decided to completely drop the Mexico plotline. Evidently his wife’s ex-husband’s son killed him and Ignacio just walked out of the house a free man and forgot all about it; they never addressed whether the man lived/died/wasn’t shot at all but forgave Ignacio/if killed how the body was disposed of (in Ignacio’s sister [Rita Moreno’s character’s] house) or if there’s a hit on Ignacio or… well, fifty other things you’d think they’d address.
I still like the show, but they do need to do some renovation and repair.
Yep. I liked him first season, but I think that was just blowback against schmucky Walter. The whole Charlie thing was long overplayed, and having it suspended through the strike didn’t help. It just made it seem like it was going on for three more months than it actually did onscreen. Then it seemed like it was finally resolved with the baby being born and that whole trinity of suck moving back to Arizona, and suddenly Henry shows up on Betty’s doorstep with a ring and an immense sense of entitlement and I really can’t stand him now.
