Now, I know most of us agree that Ann Landers should retire already, and some of us think she wasn’t all that to begin with, so I’m not debating her usefulness in general. I’m just denigrating one of her stock answers in particular.
Some woman wrote in about a problem regarding marital finances. Ann gave her Answer #3A: “Show your husband a copy of this column and tell him it struck a chord with you, because you think you’re in a similar situation.”
Huh? If he sees the letter, he’ll see the answer. Then how will she convince him she’s not the author of the letter? I don’t hold with tippy-toeing around like that anyway. If you can’t say to your spouse, “We have a problem,” then that is another problem.
