Uh Oh, looks like we need to rename to In My Honest Opinion

Apparently the majority of the internets think the H in IMHO stands for “Honest”. link.

Honestly. Kids these days.

xkcd with an excellent take.

ETA (Extra Text Appended): By topic, this should maybe go in MPSIMS (My Post Seems Immaterial Maybe Sorta), but given the direct relevance, I put it here. Feel free to post your honest or humble opinions about the topic.

In protest, I now dedicate myself to lying in this forum. Every single post I write will contain a lie.

That’s fucked up.

IMHO they’re wrong.

And they likely know what JMHO stands for. The I in IMHO is confusing them because it doesn’t seem humble.

When I see the letters, that is what I silently read also.

My teenage daughter said she never heard of IMHO and no one she knows uses it.

Oh, great. I’ve made lots of posts where I used the alternate IMNSHO (In My Not-So-Humble Opinion). Now people will think I’m being deliberately deceptive. :smack:

The “H” is silent.

Like the ‘H’ in '“Jesus H. Christ!”?

I find it hilarious that this abbreviation appears frequently on Russian internet sites transliterated into Russian letters: ИМХО. But the letters don’t stand for any Russian words, it’s just a wholesale borrowing of the English abbreviation. Of course, the Х still stands for humble. Or rather хамбл.

Do you honestly think anyone will care? Perhaps more humility is warranted.

Good thing. Otherwise people who drop their Hs would say IMOO – In my 'onest opinion. or, IMOH – In my 'onest hopinion.

It’s better than referring to the 20th century Russian empire in English as the “CCCP”. That’s what the letters in the Russian abbreviation look like, but they’re completely different letters than the English “cee” and “pee”. And don’t even get me started on people replacing E with Σ to make something look “Greek”: “My Big Fat GrΣΣk Wedding” would be pronounced “Grssk”.

Personally, I like to tell people that I’m going to CTON at the PECTOPAH on the way home.
