I used to think Kate was a full-of-herself bitch for the first few weeks and now I am agreeing with manwithaplan and Crusoe that she is definitely one of the soundest in there. Also she doesn’t bitch about housemates as much as the others seems to do and she votes for people who she really wants out of the house.
This week she voted for Jade and Alex - no need to explain Jade but she has had issues with Alex from the start, although after reading that “Follow the Van” story, it looks like they could be becomming friends
I also like Jonny, I think he is sound as well, so Jonny and Kate are my favourites at the moment.
Francesca I think you should vote for Adele this week, go on! I am even tempted myself!
I wonder if freckles makes a good point about Adele stripping Alex of his Spinal Tap quality – the only time I get a slight glimpse of it now is when he’s in the dairy room submitting his nominations. His pronunciation is so deliberate and robotic when he does those. manwithaplan – yep, that was a bit disconcerting! Did you ever see my thread from a few months ago about World Cup betting ? FWIW, my head just about says Hewitt but damn, it’ll be a close run thing.
Francesca – Don’t vote !! the triffids are taking over…it’s the first sign of assimilation…Be afraid !
BTW, there was this little teasing moment I’m not sure about. When wanky Tim was ordering his weekly shopping he said “Magazine, £100” – did he mean in the singular or are there lots and why haven’t any appeared in the coverage I’ve seen. Porno – enquiring minds would like to know ?
I heard from someone that Kate comes from around my newish manor. She’s definitely south of the river but how far, anyone know ?
Also, I tend to agree with those on whom Kate is growing although I tend to think it’s because of the ever-shortening list of characters you’d spend an evening with. Looks like a pretty normal girl who likes a drink and a laugh, although I fear the conversation might falter once we’d discussed the merits and demerits of the Spice Girls. I suppose at that point you just propose more horizontal discussions.
Errr…what ‘Follow the Van’ story ?
Interesting now. Jade’s going for sure but…if Adele also goes, the house is down to one woman. Will the great British public take that into account…I need to think…
The magazine was a copy of ‘Maxim’. I don’t think he got to pick one in advance; it was a case of pay an extortionate amount since reading materials were confiscated earlier in the show. In the end it turned out to be (a) one that was confiscated from Jonny (I think) and (b) one Tim had read anyway. No current issue was supplied since that might let the housemates know what’s been going on in the rest of the world.
She may as well vote and you too, afterall how long do we spend watching it, reading about it on the web
and then discuss it on the board
When he ordered the magazine he was aware he was only going to get one and he didn’t know what type. He was probably hoping it would be a girls magazine with tips on how to dye your hair. The magazine turned out to be FHM (I think ) that PJ brought in with him at the start and was confiscated.
Oh my god - shoot me now - I know way too much about BB
Okay, thanks everyone. Saw Tim reading the mag last night and asking: “Who is Hugh Hefner” to which the response was “A film star I think”. Tim replies “I thought so”. This is what we’re watching, folks !
I’m not sure I quite get the ‘Van’ story, though. Obviously, Alex shot his load but how did it happen…I’ guess I’m not very good at working that stuff out…was he manually assisted and which of them took the matter in hand ?
Interesting take from Graeme Norton last night. He was arguing that the nation should be mobilised to vote to keep Jade in the house – obviously on the basis that we’re all a lot safer knowing where she is.
I think I may have had a premonition, or at least a strange lucid moment. It suddenly came to me that, if Kate continues to play this as she’s done thus far and twigs a couple of things:
She should vote for Adele all the time so, eventually, helping to ensure she’s the only woman in the house.
Generally, the men in the house won’t particularly want a girlie-free house
If Adele goes, Alex, wanting female validation, will lean towards her.
With Alex and Jonny (already) onside, she’s unlikely to be nominated and, even if she is, the great British public either won’t want a girlie-free house and/or like her too much compared with most likely fellow nominee’s
So, for my money, if Adele goes on Friday, Kate’s into the final two.
L_C, you’ve got it bad. You’ve gone from stating that you were going to avoid BB3 like the plague to rivalling yojimbo as the SD’s leading resident Big Brother analyst.
You’re right about Kate’s ideal strategy although I think she’ll probably make the last two even without relying on the ‘last female standing’ tactics. To some extent, her popularity is down to the fact that she has been fairly straight and up-front and being seen to adopt particular tactics could work against her. If she kept shtum though, the public probably wouldn’t cop on.
The Graham Norton factor is worth considering. With some particularly sad exceptions (that means you, yojimbo) people gain most of their BB info. from the 30 minute nightly highlights show, which is immediately followed by our favourite Corkonian’s spot. His appeal to keep Alex in the house in the first couple of weeks for entertainment value definitely had an effect. He may come to Jade’s rescue yet, but I doubt it. If Jade does stay then presumably Adele is in the firing line.
I noticed Yojimbo hasn’t posted for a few days so I’m assuming he’s dug in with a little camping stove and a camouflage jacket just off the norf Circular - with binoculars trained on all exits of Elstree. I hope the booze convey make sit though otherwise things could get ugly by Friday.
Yep, I suppose I’m a little like Crusoe who finds the late night stuff hypnotic. I dunno though, I quite like the whole media whore/wannbe famous thing, as well as subtle tribal stuff in the house. It’s all quite intriguing.
Absolutely. I can’t stand the highlights shows, with the unconvincing (and frankly patronising) will-they-won’t-they teasers, since everyone who reads a paper or a news website knows roughly what’s going on. The live stuff is still bizarrely addictive, though.
I’m not sure how live it really is, mind. I watched it once and they kept checking the time–which was an hour behind the time I was watching it. There was also a point in which Tim spotted a cameraman silhouetted behind a false mirror, and they abruptly cut the broadcast and started playing it again from half an hour earlier.
It definitely isn’t live on E4, I think there is about a 30 minute delay on it. Why they advertise as live I don’t know.
I haven’t seen it in the last 2 days so I am getting withdrawal symptons but eviction night tonight so myself and a few of my mates are going to watch it tonight, probably all night
I always watch Graham Norton to see what he has to say and I do think he did influnence the public to keep Alex in but it didn’t work with Lee. His theory was to keep Lee in the house and watch him explode at some stage because we all knew there was something a bit mad about him but the public still voted him out. I think he is right to tell people to leave Jade in but I think so many people hate her and want her out that his words will fall on deaf ears and my money is on Jade to be out tonight although my preference would be Adele.
2FM, one of Ireland’s many crappy radio stations held an eviction poll by text last night. It was roughly 3% each for Jonny and Kate, 30%ish for Jade and over 60% for Adele. Adele has also become the bookmaker’s favourite for eviction.
She appears to be the dopers’ evictee of choice too, mostly due to general moaniness and dullness. I reckon the great British and Irish public was more affected by her very blunt outburst against their darling, Jonny. It was a big mistake to put so much venom into that particular moan. And of course, there’s Graham.
There’s an interesting article at the link below that argues fairly convincingly that Jade is being set up as a hate figure deliberately by Channel 4. Although I still find her repugnantly stupid, she doesn’t deserve the treatment the author is predicting for her:
There are also stories doing the rounds that the bars are coming down this weekend. I think that’s a fairly safe bet; the novelty has certainly worn off, and with fewer housemates it’s just not interesting any more.
I should clarify my last post. It’s not the accent that drives me barmy but the pace and content: Always sounds to me like he’s reading a children’s story for a six-year old to a four-year old: Are…you…sure…you…understand ? Yes I do understand you oaf, not least because I have a television and you’re describing what I can already see.
I read the article, Crusoe but I’m also left wondering why, if the edited coverage – not the highlights that I see - is that uncharitable, how all of her fellow housemates voted for her, especially when so many seem to take the E4 feed. Isn’t that some kind of record ?
Hello again. I was away from a comp. for the last few days but was following the goings on in BB.
Adele has to and will go(crosses fingers). She’s a bit of a wagon and is stirring the shit but that’s not the reason she should go. The reason she should go is that it will make Alex go mad again. He was talking last night about how he couldn’t see it happening. It will happen and he’ll hopefully crack again. “Tap” will be in the house again
I think there is a change of heart happening with regard to Jade. She’ll still be nominated and most likely evicted next week but I don’t think the strength of negative feelings will be still there. Yeah I think she’ll get a hardish time but that she deserves. Even G. Norton is pulling back from his nightly slag-fest of the silly sausage.
Kate has definitely grown and I agree that she is the most likely to win at the moment. Jonny is just a whinny depressive annoyance. He just cannot deal with the nomination process. I get the feeling that he never really got a lot of hassle in his life. “Why me” has almost become his mantra.
Tonight should be good craic. Adele is evicted will be in for a shock. She was saying the other night that she thought the public would view her as quiet and boring. Well they do but the whole bitch thing kinda over rides them feelings.
The bars are coming down this weekend but the producers on BBLB yesterday said that the housemates would have to give up a lot to get them down. Hmmmm could it be the whole house will live in the style of the poor side or could it be that the loser of the challenge is automatically up for eviction? Don’t know but they are going to throw more surprises at them.
Jeehhhhd Pee-jeehhh and Alex have ben cauuled to the die-ary ruuuum.
I think he plays it up. No one should speak with that much of a Geordie accent and remain comprehensible.
I do so hope Adele goes. But if the crowds start boo-ing, I’m turning over. I don’t care if I have to watch Newnight Review, I am not watching that baying mob once more. (And if Tom Paulin and Germaine Greer are on , I shall watch with joy. I <3 Tom Paulin.)
I do think Jade is specifically being portrayed as a thick bitch. Virtually all of the scenes we get of her in the edited highlights on C4are her being just that. Obviously, that is part of her character but I think the producers and editors monitor the audience perception and edit accordingly. Have you noticed how once the public picks up on a character fault in one of housemates they suddenly become caricatures of those faults?
