Every time I go to any the garage I see signs saying “no solo and electron cards”. What are they (obviously some sort of credit/debit card?) and why are they so unwelcome?
They’re sort of junior debit cards (solo is run by switch and electron by visa) that people can have from the age of about 16. They’re used like normal debit cards but alot less places take them.
thanks MC, but why if they are backed by visa and switch do less places take them? 16 year olds need petrol too.
Solo is a type of Switch card; according to the Solo website the main difference is that with Solo every transaction must be verified to check the amount of money is in the cardholder’s account (normally with Switch they might only check to see if the card is stolen, and Switch purchases can even be made without any checks). I imagine that it might be more expensive or require fancier terminals to use Solo with the additional checks. And since 16 year olds don’t have that much money it might not be economical to support it.
Umm… they don’t need very much petrol, surely? Or has the driving age been lowered when I wasn’t looking?
Mopeds? You’d need an egg-cup-full every fortnight for one of them.
you are right shade - not being a UKer I hadn’t realised that the driving age wasn’t 16 like back in kiwiland. Rephrase my question with 17 year olds.
Refusal, my debit card is like that, I often get refused purchases because I have not topped up my debit (visa) card. So the retailers already bear this cost
OK. Hey, good point.
