I vote for Sanjeev Bhaskar, and I hear he is the Beeb’s preferred choice. Other names in the frame include

Stephen Fry
Anne Robinson
Paul Merton
John Sergeant
Jonathan Ross
Nick Hancock

I think Anne Robinson and Paul Merton have already ruled themselves out with their poor performances as guest host, whether or not they wanted the job. John Sergeant, on the other hand, was a pretty good host and may be a contender. Jonathan Ross and Nick Hancock are probably too downmarket. Stephen Fry is an interesting choice - he would probably be a terrible host, but if not there’s just the chance that he could move the show into new territory, which might appeal to those who think that the programme is becoming tired.

Any other suggestions?
