Most importantly, transfer-wise, is the headline news that not-at-all-immobile Dean Windass has signed for the mighty Oldham Athletic until the end of the season. All we have to do to pay his wages is sell Lee Hughes (Doncaster, £200,000+) and Chris Taylor (Sheffield United, £650,000) before the end of the month.
Everton have pulled it together in the past couple of months, starting to play with a lot of resolve. We were really poor at the start of the season, didn’t play a decent 90 minutes for about 3 months. Our next games are brutal though, Arsenal at home, then Liverpool at the tin mine twice, league and cup, then Man U away! Kin ell.
This is with no fit centre forward at the club, and our most imposing midfielder out with a two match ban. Felliani has now picked up 10 yellow cards in 14 games, the clumsy big galoot.
I see Liverpool have just stunk the place out - 0-0 draw with Stoke FFS. A nice punctuation to Rafa’s wibble-fest yesterday. I almost feel sorry for the fat Spanish waiter - don’t particularly disagree with what he’s ranting on about, and he probably feels the need to take the media spotlight off Stevie, but Christ that was phoney. Making a song and dance about referees and the terrible injustices visited upon the noble Red Shite, whilst reading from a script like an autistic Kevin Keegan.
/me bangs head on desk
Some Saturdays I don’t like this game so much.
Once you get sucked in though, it could never be called ‘boring’.
FACT!
But Gerrard’s two shots to the post damn near killed me.
Christ.
Torres, Keane and Babel all on the bench at once, and lo! we have no penetration. Incredible. Having (successfully) turned Kuyt into a right-sided all-pitch utility player, Benitez apparently now wants him to be a target man.
The ways of the Benitez are many and strange.
Strange, stupid, whichever.
We didn’t do well against Stoke last time; I have no idea why Rafa thought we’d do better with those three on the bench. And, look! We didn’t do any better. Quel surprise.
If my lot can beat Chelsea later today, it’ll certainly set up an interesting meeting for your team next week.
Quite agree that clubs from the lower divisions may not have the funds to install u/soil heating but surely Fulham and Pompey can afford it.
On the bright side, the postponement of Citys game means that we have more time to get SWP fit and also to sign Bellamy/Roque SC/Anyone else from whatever club.
Exactly. There can be no excuses there.
That’s the way, chowder! The alternative City anthem.
I’d take it a step further and fine any premier club that had to call off games because of a frozen pitch.
Plus Leeds:D
To be fair, clubs like Pompey aren’t actually meant to be in the Premiership - they don’t make enough money. You can’t expect them to borrow money to install piddling things like under-soil heating, they have to spend it on crappy players!
Go Wigan! Need Magic 'arry to get another club relegated to hopefully bury his reputation at long last.
Hopefully United & Chelski draw, the top 3 cocking up in pathetic fashion is pretty amusing. Kuyt alone up front with Torres and Keane on the bench? Is Benitez still on pain-killers or something? They really, really missed Alonso too. So crucial for them. He’s their underrated Fabregas (not as good, but almost as important). Lucas really isn’t up to that role.
Who knows, Villa could win the title! Though they’ve been really lucky with injuries and billionaires buying the title is tedious.
Really tiring to hear about how terrible Arsenal are for taking 80 minutes to knock off a 10-behind-the-ball Bolton, but when a team like United take over 90 minutes to knock off an even worse 11-behind-the-ball Sunderland, they’re just being “persistent” with the “quality eventually showing” and other such guff.
I’m starting to wonder if Gareth Bale’s unusual record (never won a League game with Tottenham) isn’t just a bizarre coincidence. What a woeful defender.
“Too good to go down”. Uhuh.
It’s looking a bit scarey fpr Spurs innit?
Go “Twitcher” you can do it
Absolute shellacking of Chelsea by United. Chelsea looked quite unable to step up to the plate, and United, despite their petulant whining the first half, looked quite a bit better.
They have two games in hand. Six added points put them ahead of Liverpool; four put them right behind. Going to be tough to stop them.
Unfortunately:D
A good, battling performance from Man U today. Now here’s hoping Liverpool and Chelsea cut each others throats when they meet up.
How the hell did Rooney stay on the pitch in that game? I only really watched the first half, but there were multiple times he should have had his whining arse back in the changing room.
Of course then Fergie would have been telling us all about how referees were biased against United.
Oh yes, and another Villa win. Take that you Baggie bastards.
Rooney petulantly kicks someone then throws his arm up at the ref? How is that not an automatic red? Christ, refs in the EPL are hopeless. Didn’t affect the result though, Chelsea were so shocking.
Seems the knives are coming out for another manager, despite him being class. Can’t be the old players with no flair or desire, or the guy who sells one of your few players with something different in SWP then cocks up buying his replacement. Can’t be the assistant manager who’s leaving coincided with everything going pear-shaped for Chelski, no sirreee, gotta be the manager! Poor Scolari.
United weren’t especially good honestly, Ronaldo was poor, Rooney was his pathetic petulant self that only survives because the refs are so poor, Berbatov was his lazy anonymous self. Giggs and Fletcher were immense and Park put in his usual excellent shift though. Evans was good too, though O’shea is pretty crap.
Interestingly, if Chelski lose/draw a couple more games, and frankly they look in freefall at the moment so I wouldn’t bet against it, they would drop to 5th if Arsenal/Villa win theirs. Chelski to drop out of the CL? Oh I dream.
I’m beginning to think that a certain foorball manager is right about Ferguson, the red nosed twat.
Refs do seem to be afraid of doing anything that might upset him.
Shrek should most certainly have been sent off, any other player from any other team would have been given an instant red.
Ivan Come on man, even a die hard misguided glory hunter like yourself could’nt disagree with that
