UK football, season 2008/09, forecasts

Ahhh, chowder, I knew there was a reason I liked you.

I’d settle for Chowder’s table but my feeling is that City will struggle now that the Thakasin money has dried up.

His money is not going to be unfrozen and he’s gone into exile. With him trying to sell players behind the manager’s back the writing is on the wall. Corluka wants away and he’ll be gone before the start of the season, there won’t be any new signings. Elano looks like he’ll be off to Italy shortly.

This is the Man City I know and love.

Hell, my idea of a successful season now is avoiding relegation and Jo not suffering a broken leg in the Olympics. :dubious:

Thus far Frank has been found guilty of NOTHING and while some of his dosh has been frozen I have little doubt that it will soon be unfrozen.

Corluka is not going to the Spuds and nor is Elano looking for a move.

Already Hughes has made it quite clear that he’s the boss and that no transfers (in or out) will be without his say-so, the board have backed down on any proposed moves because of Hughes stance.

Anyway: Enough of the doom and gloom, let’s look forward to a new season with City sweeping all before them in a display of football that will leave the rest of the premiership in awe.

Please God, I beg of you, make this so

Next time I’m feeling down, a quick search for chowder’s posts containing “Man City” will be sure to cheer me up. They’re also an excellent tool to show someone who feels that they have lost touch with reality, as a demonstration that there is somebody else who is worse off.

Well, if he won’t actually show up for trial, that may slow things down…

That’s it we want the finishing position for every team. The TAB (Tote) in NSW and Victoria is running a competition. For every $5 bet you have on football in August you get to have one free pick in a Predict the EPL Ladder competition. First prize is $500,000. If no-one picks the correct order first prize is a randomly picked entry that wins $1,000. I think that will be the winner.

Frank’s money is not going to get unfrozen - that is why he’s announced his exile. He thought his political allies would fix things for him but they have ostentatiously distanced themselves from him and he now knows he has no legal chance to unfreeze his assets. Unless he turns up in court and wins his case (which he knows he won’t) they will remain frozen.

He is now in exile and there is an arrest warrant out for him and no one thinks he has a strong case for claiming political asylum. We have a bilateral criminal treaty with Thailand.

He is no longer a billionaire, just another modestly rich dude who needs to raise money now - which is why he is selling players.

Hughes has no say in the matter unfortunately as events over the weekend showed. He found out from Hart in the dressing room why Ireland was missing.

I hope Hughes can keep things together - I don’t mind Ireland going but Elano and Corluka in particular are essential. I wouldn’t mind Elano going if we could get a less fair-weather replacement. (SWP, SWP!)

I think we need to face up to the reality of the situation and lower our expectations. The silver lining may be that he has to sell up to another bunch of rich foreigners and next season will see the money and signings flow.

I do admire your optimism though.

Are you perchance doubting my sanity sir? :dubious:

tagos But of course I’m an optimist, I said so in my OP

I’d also like to see SWP back but it aint gonna happen unfortunately

Thaksin’s wife (it’s Thaksin, not Thakasin) HAS been found guilty of corruption fraud in one case and was sentenced to three years in prison a week or two ago. She’s out on bail on appeal, but has skipped that. Several more cases for both of them are up before the same court, and it’s like having John Gotti or Al Capone in court, it’s a cinch they are guilty. So they decided to flee. Problem is, they cannot really expect political amnesty now. The military junta that overthrew Thaksin has been replaced by a democratically elected governemnt (and truth be told, many people preferred the junta, myself and the wife included), and he had returned to Thailand voluntarily earlier this year. So now he and his wife are just common criminals on the lam. Pathetic.

There’s a lot more than meets the eye, too; don’t think that it’s a simple criminal matter. There is credible evidence that Thaksin was eyeing the throne for himself, and reportedly the royalist faction in this country, which is strong, will stop at nothing to punish him. If they can do it legitimately by going after him for his very real corrupt practices, then so much the better for them. Thailand suffered for 5-1/2 years under this creep. Personally, I hope the British police arrest them both and bundle them onto a plane handcuffed.

Hell has a better chance of freezing than Thaksin’s billions do of unfreezing.

The FA may well do another ‘fitness’ test and force him to sell up. Rumours are flying that Hughes is going to resign. It’s so pathetic it is almost funny. It could only happen to City.

You already said you’re a City fan :).

Forgive my ignorance, but how was it that Frank was allowed to purchase the club in the first place? Did the appropriate checks at the time not spot what seems now to be a very shady past?

The FA has very low standards. We all knew he was dubious but at the time it looked like he was going to clear it all up for what passes for ‘legally’ in Thailand.

Can I just ask the Blues( Man City ones) what they think about Ol’ Blue Eyes stroke of genius idea to have crystals planted under the pitch and in specific spots around the ground? Are these special Man City Specific crystals, that won’t energise the opposing teams, or is it more complicated than that?

p.s. Cursed by gypsies and counter-acted by Feng Shui…

They are actually crystals made of solid bullshit, hardened by fire and steeped in vinegar to make them virtually indestructable.

If I have to tell you the effect they have on City players and opposition then I’d have to kill you

Let me guess then. City players will all wear their own personal crystals, specially blessed by Thai priests, that interact with the undersoil crystals to make City invincible? What a set of cunning footballing stunts…or have I mispronounced that?

You guessed correctly.

A team of trained assassins will be with you shortly. I’m sorry but you asked for it.

Well, the fantasy football team is all set up.

The mini league is ready.

Time to see if reality gets in the way of dreams.

Perhaps you’ve overlooked the team I support.

Reality always gets in the way of our dreams

Man City - The Spawn of H.P.Lovecraft and the Carry On Team.

Look here you suvvern poof, you’re making me very angry, don’t make me come to Lunnon and sort you out.

I’m assuming that living in Lunnon you support Manure
