UK football, season 2008/09, forecasts

Well, that was rubbish. I mean, we scored 7 fewer goals than the best result. Seven! That means we probably lost 3-0.

What you say? We beat Real 5-0? Their worst pounding in CL history?

Oh, okay then. Guess I’ll take it.

MKD have three in hand, which is pretty substantial. Still, it looks like they might get only 5 points from them or so, which leaves the whole second spot up in the air.

The really good news is that Leicester are obviously going to promote at the top of the table. It will be good to be back where they have a chance of Premiership football again.
Oh, and where is Discordia??:o

What a result, Madrid were crushed, crushed I tells ya and I’m glad I was wrong in expecting 'pool to blow it.

I went to watch Rochdale last night play Bradford who are also pushing for automatic promo.

Great game and the mighty Dale won 3-0 which takes them into 3rd place.

We nearly had a streaker :). Young fit wench a few seats down from me took off all her gear and made for the pitch, almost made it before some miserable bugger of a spectator grabbed her and stopped the festivities.

Honestly, some people

What an extraordinary night of results. I’m glad that Liverpool and Chelsea got through, mainly beacuse it makes it even less likely they’ll catch Man U in the league. Let’s hope the Reds can put up half as good a show tonight, but I have a feeling that this could be where they’ll slip up. Seems like they’re due a bad performance/unlucky result. But I hope not.

United fan checking in…

I’m feeling pretty good about tonight. 1) I simply don’t see United conceding a goal with Rio and Vidic playing. 2) Liverpool did to Madrid what United did to Roma the past few years at OT, and what they did to Milan at OT, and just attacked attacked attacked. If they do that, and just harrass the hell out of Inter, I think the only thing stopping United is another great match by Julio Cesar. Hopefully he doesn’t do that again. I’m predicting United 2-0 Inter. Arsenal should be able to get an away goal, which would mean Roma would need 3.

If Real Madrid were actually interested in winning, and still wanted to make a transfer splash, they’d go for Cesc Fabregas. I think he would have been the perfect type of player for them to settle things down last night. I’m not sad that RM went out, though.

Bayern. Impressive.

I think Lyon are going to pull an upset tonight.

Same here. A bad jump at this hurdle and a stumble at the next, could see the whole complexion of our race changing drastically.

< nibbles fingernails >

As if!. I am not a United fan, and in my opinion, there is no way you will not take the Prem this season. 7 points clear with a game in hand, and the teams behind you showing naff all consistency. Have the bookies paid out yet?

If only Lord, if only;)

I hope your lot can keep up your end of the challenge, Mr chowder!

We can’t get beat even when we are playing crap! :stuck_out_tongue:

What a crap league. Humiliated at the hands of the European power houses of interesting football.

Well there you go: All 4 English teams through to the next round. Now lets hope Chelsea draw Liverpool again…

Well, it turns out Arsenal were the ones needing the hairs on their chinny-chin-chins! But the league with the crappy teams is 4 - 0 to the quarters. Meanwhile, Spain has two entrants, Germany one, Portugal one and Italy, home of very interesting play, none.

I’m predicting that Barca are going to take out one more team, unless they are paired against Manchester United, but then will go out in the semis. I also predict that the only way English teams are going out is against English teams. So much for crappy, boring football.

(To be fair about it, Man U weren’t exactly awesome tonight in the first half…)

City beat Aalborg 2-0 in the first leg of the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.

Should have been more, a definite penalty was not given when Robinho was brought down in the box.

I expected more goals in the second half but from the way City played, deep in mid-field, I suspect those were Mark Hughes instructions at half time.

Still, a nice lead to take to Denmark next Thursday for the 2nd leg

I was wondering that too. Probably not watching the Champion’s League though after sharing his thoughts about it earlier on.

I’m a bit surprised City didn’t go for the throat when they had the chance to finish off Aalborg. They could have killed off the tie there and then.

All it takes is one quick goal for Aalborg in the return game and it might be squeaky bum time - if you’ll pardon my use of a Fergusonism.

Hopefully we’ll have Bellamy back for the 2nd leg, then it’s throat biting time

No. Ankle-biting time, I’ll give you, though, with Bellamy.

I’ve hardly logged on here lately, other than to laugh at Ed shooting himself in the foot (and sycophants like you defending him).

A bar and a post and some penalties from 2/4. That’s football, I guess. Nothing to gloat about, though. Juve/Madrid will only get stronger, next couple of CLs should be interesting.

Barca should still win this one, though fatigue is a concern.

If fatigue is a concern, don’t EPL clubs play more games per season than other nations?

And having 2 of the 8 quarter finalists would be a pretty good success story for a league. Having the maximum possible at 4 is an incredible success.

As villa quite rightly says, having all 4 English teams through is incredible and certainly something to gloat about.

Sycophants, what sycophants:confused:?

He means me, for having defended the attempted changes to The Pit in ATMB threads. I guess the fact that I was one of the first to suggest that the proposed rule was at best ambiguous, and would lead to disputes difficult to solve wasn’t sufficient for the fire eaters. That I had the temerity to actually defend what was going on makes me a brown-noser.

As for the football issue, England have 4 of 8 quarterfinalists. That’s half of what is left. The only team that was even close to not making it was Arsenal. But, of course, even though it was Bayern who managed an overwhelmingly awesome football display, Barca are still stated to be the favs. It’s like a stuck record.
