UK football, season 2008/09, forecasts

Keeping the flag flying for Manchester my old mucker :stuck_out_tongue:

I tell you, last nights game was sphincter clenching stuff, thank heaven for GKs named Shay Given.

Right, who is next?

Bring 'em on

I wrote that after the first leg, and so it came to pass.

Shocking game last night though, and City will have to do better against Hamburg - I just don’t see that they’re up to it.

Since my principles stop me from paying sky to watch football - although that doesn’t extend to my buying a pint at my local to watch it there - I have to get my fix from free broadcasts which is the only reason I stuck with the game last night.
Things are falling apart down in Wales as my team have suffered back to back losses for the first time this season.

Some of the more fickle supporters who have only know the good times we’ve had in the last 4/5 years are already whinging about the manager.

Already this century Swansea City have nearly folded and escaped relegation out of the league by winning their last game of the season. Now we’re 9th in the Championship and that’s not enough for some fans.

And in other news of import: It appears that it won’t be an English team that dispatches Barca to the sidelines.

But you have to love the annual love-fest that is Chelsea - Liverpool in Europe. Why don’t they just draw them against each other right off the bat and save the suspense? :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t agree with your last statement.

We’ll have Bellamy and (hopefully) Petrov back for the Hamburg game/s.

It has to be said that I’m less than impressed with Robinhos performances, one game he’s brilliant and the next 2 or 3 he plays as if he couldn’t give a shit one way or the other.

I’m thinking that perhaps a spell on the subs bench might make him realise that he’s not the be all and end all and could wake him up

We beat Villa 2-0 without him, so you never know. Give Elano a chance to play a full 90 mins.

BTW I fully agree about Sky, fuck 'em

Ginger and Shrek both sent off as manure crash to Fulham 2-0.

The rot has set in

In other news: Rochdale beat Wycombe 1-0 to go 2nd in Div. 2 and so maintain their push for auto promo.

Up the Dale

Don’t get too carried away. We’ve still got to fuck up another 2 games and the others have still got to win every game.

If you’re going to have a blip, now is the best time to have it when it’s of no importance whatsoever.

Could have done without shrek walking tho.

And lo, Chelsea get beat 1-0 so that’s one of them put back to bed.

I still haven’t ruled out the possibility that I’ve been dreaming the last 10 sporting days. More evidence:

[ul]
[li]England win an ODI in arguably the most ridiculous manner possible[/li][li]Australia’s new leggie goes for 8.3 an over on debut[/li][li]Man U ship two to Fulham and Chelsea bottle it against Spurs[/li][/ul]
Next to these, the return of the Calcutta Cup is relatively mundane, but who’d have bet on it two weeks ago?

Still, tricky match tomorrow. Will be glued to the sofa…

I have a feeling you’re going to fuck up more than 2 games old bean.

Complacency methinks.

Anyways, Shrek will have more time on his hands to go granny shagging now

So nice to see Rooney sent off for a petulant tantrum. Frankly, if he was sent off for that stuff more often, he’d be either more in control of it, or would be out of the league quite deservedly.

Chelsea got their just desserts today. Tottenham better most of the game. Amazingly, Gomez is actually a heck of a keeper, when needs be.

Leicester City again save themselves a point with a late goal. I’m thinking it’s gonna be top of the table for them, and Posh close behind.

I’m starting to accept that for Posh to succeed Man U have to fail…

Posh now hold second place on merit alone, no longer on games played. We still have to play Leicester at home and Millwall away but… We just might do it!

At least I hope so, this years play-off is going to be rough!

You know you are having a bad day when it is Bendtner who opens the account sheet against you.

His former manager David Moyes said it was harsh on Goals on Sunday just now, as did the presenters. They reckoned he was just throwing the ball back to where the free kick was to be taken - only he did it “too vehemently.” I agree with them - I’m vehemently helpful all the time. It’s the first adverb that springs to mind. Just last night my housemate was making stew, and I was all up in his face: “Do you want the carrots? Are you ready for the fucking carrots, you fucking stew maker? Take them now!”

As it turned out he didn’t want the carrots, but I knew from his silence that he appreciated my efforts.

I also liked Moyes on the Scholes sending off: “well, by the letter of the law the ref’s got it right.” As if there were some ur-footballing sense in which deliberate handball to prevent a goal warrants just a slap on the wrist and no biscuits at tea-time.

You’ve got to love football managers.

This is now enshrined in my pantheon of all-time great SDMB posts.

So anyway, how was the stew Badger ?

Needed carrots.

Well all I can say is you were not vehement enough in asking if he wanted carrots, the bloody stew maker.

I mean, what’s a stew without carrots?

Liverpool leading Villa by 3-0 at the moment and it looks as if the Scousers will move withing 1 pt of manure.

City beating Sunderland 1-0 and Robinho missed a penalty ::smack::

There’s no talking to him some days. He doesn’t like fish, either. Fish! How can anyone live without fish?

Flipping 'eck, it’s 4-0. I really must be dreaming.

I presume you simply slap his face with one when need be, right?
Liverpool have the bit between their teeth now. United had best find the script if they want to win this thing. Villa, meanwhile, are quickly proving that they have been doing it with smoke and mirrors; the fire is out and someone smashed the mirrors.

Two missed penalty kicks this weekend in the BPL. I tell you, it’s an infectious disease.
