Excuse me but you seem to have overlooked the fact that OAOW mentioned when we, the UK, get the finals .
He wasn’t talking about next year in S.Africa

Bad news is yours, sir. We’ll make the Finals in 2030, when they finally let England have them again.
To somewhat contradict what I said earlier, it appears that the biggest transfer ever has just been paid in a lump sum. Mental.
Excuse the double post, but I just noticed Alex Ferguson’s quote in that article:
Wonder if that’s a sly reference to his vow that he “wouldn’t sell Real Madrid a virus”?
Where are Madrid getting the money! WTF! Now Benzema for 30M! Good grief. Hopefully United won’t panic and buy someone for an inflated price. Tough to see who they could buy though.
Crazy summer.
Bonkers, innit? Nice to see Blatter and Platini maintaining a sense of balance though, and accusing Real Madrid of financial doping.
Oh, no, wait, they haven’t made a peep. Apparently it’s fine if Spanish clubs spend ludicrous sums. How odd.
So manyoo are interested in signing Owen.
Surely Owen woudn’t turn down the worlds most beloved club in favour of Hull or even Stoke
Owen to Man. U??? Ferguson replaces Tevez with Owen???
:dubious:
Well, he’s on a pay-per-play deal apparently, so combined with a free transfer it’s no real risk; Ferguson could have done it just to tweak some Liverpool noses, had he been that way inclined. Nor is it entirely out of character - think of when he brought in Henrik Larsson as a short term measure.
Can’t imagine Owen’ll get a great reception at Anfield in that shirt, though.
Well, he COULD have signed for the Toffees.

It concerns me more than a little that my Blaugrana haven’t so much as dropped a single dollar (err, euro) for anyone this summer. We’ve been linked to both David Villa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which perplexes me: what on earth could a team with Henry, Messi, and Eto’o up front possibly do with more top tier strikers beside making them unhappy, a la Eidur Gudjohnsen?
Yes and the Liverpool fans aint happy about what they perceive to be an act of unmitigated treachery. You do not play for 'Pool and then them
I’ve had a look at the Liverpool FC forum and Owen is described as “A traitor and an undeveloped hobgoblin”
This being just one of the milder insults being hurled his way
Come on you pansys, it’s time to predict the final positions…
United
Liverpool
Chelsea
City
Arsenal
Spurs
Everton
Villa
Blackburn
Fulham
West Ham
Sunderland
Wolves
Portsmouth
Burnley
Birmingham
Bolton
Hull
Stoke
Wigan
Just relax a little - need to wait until silly season is over. Because right now Liverpool’s picks are…silly. And it’s too early to cry.
Can I just say, if I were Chelsea (perish the thought) and someone offered me £30m for Terry, I would bite their arm off and giggle all the way to the bank. If they actually get the £40m they mentioned, it will be proof positive that Hughes has gone barking mad (or has been given a blank cheque).
And yeah, I don’t see the point in making predictions until transfer season shakes out. Little sense in speculating when you don’t even know what the teams will look like.
Pansys
Judge me on my predictions next May.
I’d sell Terry for 40M in a heartbeat.
Hard to say what’s going to happen this season. So far I’m not impressed with United’s signings. Presumably they knew Ronaldo was leaving and should have moved earlier, behind the scenes at least.
They need a midfielder and one more striker.
Right now I’d have Liverpool winning the title.
But what’s Liverpool done to improve? They overspent (in my opinion) on Glenn Johnson, and may be losing Alonso and/or Mascherano. They were superb in their matches vs the rest of the top 4 last year, while United were mediocre, and iirc Chelsea poor; I don’t expect that to be the standard for this season. Arsenal were crushed by injuries.
Assuming United still have another move in them for a player who, if not one of the first penciled into the starting 11, will be there most of the time, I just don’t see anyone topping them yet. People have written about replacing Ronaldo and Tevez’ 40 odd goals, and say Owen and Valencia can’t/won’t do it. They don’t have to do it themselves (one of the sweetest things about the 2006/07 season was everyone in July and August, after Ruud was sold to Madrid, asking “Where will the goals come from?!” and United subsequently having their best attacking season in years). People are thinking Rooney won’t step up? Berbatov, with a full preseason this year, won’t pick up more than the dozen or so he scored? On the other hand for United, I don’t expect Giggs’ Indian Summer to continue, and lots of people think this will be Scholes last year with United, so neither should be counted on for much.
Barring a huge signing by any of the Big 4 right now, I’d say United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, with City comfortably in 5th, and a tight race for the rest. But, we’ve still got 8 weeks before the window closes, so I’m officially withholding my prediction.
I’m basing my Liverpool prediction on their keep Alonso. Lose him and they wll be a lot weaker. I’m a fan of Johnson and it was really over 10M as they wrote off the Crouch IOU.
I’m reading gossip about Toure to United. Might be an interesting move as they do need a defensive midfielder as Hargreeves is most likely done.
Ronaldo’s goals will be hard to replace but I do hope you’re right about Berbatov and Rooney. I know very little about Valencia.
So Man City have signed Carlos Tevez which is a good name to have in your squad.
But how many strikers does Hughes want?
He’s already signed Roque Santa Cruz, we already have Robinho, Elano and Bellamy and now talks are about signing Adebayor.
OK a good squad but how is Hughes going to keep these guys happy, he can’t play them all at the same time.
Moreover, it seems that John Terry is talking to Hughes, Terry although a midfield player, is not above going forward when it matters.
I’m quite happy with these signings I have to admit but that said I can’t help but feel that maybe Hughes has overdone it
