UK Football Season 2009/2010: Forecasts

That’s the one

A very mixed bag indeed

So who is going to be playing in which Fantasy Football league seeing as everyone seems to be running one these days.

Anyone interested in starting a league in the Official Fantasy Premier League?

Better suited in a separate thread old bean

Well otherwise, it is

Despite a good run at the end of the season, neither Oldham Athletic or Crystal Palace made the playoffs

Here ends the forecast.

Peterborough to finish above Newcastle.

That is all.

This Saturday, August 8th, the football beginneth apart from the Premier League that is, which kicks off the Saturday after, it has been a long and arduous wait.

Starved of football I’m off to watch the mighty Rochdale play Port Vale and my sproglet is not only taking me there he’s also paying for my ticket.

Rochdale, having reached the play-offs in the last 2 seasons, are going for a 3rd time lucky but this time it’s auto promo they are aiming for.

Now then: Manchester City, my first love, have secured the sigs of umpteen strikers and have spent almost £100m in transfer fees. They’ve also managed to get midfield players sorted with the purchase of Bridge who along with De-Jong and Zabaleta should prove adequate.

They are now looking to shore up the defence with Lescott of Everton in their sights.

If, and it’s a big if, all these new signings manage to gel with each other then I can see a serious challenge by City for the prem title or at the very least a top 4 finish.

On the other hand, should it all go tits up then Mark Hughes will be out on his ear faster than the speed of a 1000 gazelles.

We shall see.

Up the Dale !!

Well this should cheer Gorilla Man up.

Naaaaaridge 1 Colchester 7.

Reports say Naaaaridge were an utter shambles.

Ya don’t say

In other news: Didn’t get to go to Port Vale but Rochdale managed a draw without me

What, was it too far away?

Leicester City start their campaign to return to the Premiership with a 2 - 1 home win over Swansea. They may well make it back this year!

Hey folks, time to start getting some real predictions in, now that the PL is about to start!!!

Ok, I’ll play.

1 - Liverpool
2 - Manchester United
3 - Arsenal
4 - Chelsea
5 - Everton
6 - Man City
7 - Tottenham
8 - Aston Villa
9 - West Ham
10 - Fulham
11 - Wigan
12 - Blackburn
13 - Bolton
14 - Portsmouth
15 - Burnley
16 - Birmingham City
17 - Stoke
18 - Sunderland
19 - Hull City
20 - Wolverhampton

  1. United- I think they’ll roll through England, but will fall short of the semis in the CL. Berbatov, Rooney, Nani, and Valencia have all looked good in preseason. Darren Fletcher will never get credit he deserves, but he just keeps getting better. He’ll be a 4th name on the team sheet every week after Rooney, Rio, and Vidic.
  2. Arsenal- They were just killed by injuries last year. People seem to forget that they were in 1st place pretty late in the '07/08 season.
  3. Chelsea- Still good, but getting old.
  4. Liverpool- Played out of their skin against the other big 3 next year, and those points won’t be there this year. Selling Alonso conceded their shot at the title.
  5. City- Not quite there, but Villa and Everton seemed to do nothing to make a serious upgrade and make the top 4.

For the drop: Portsmouth (do they have enough to field 11 each week?), Burnley, and Boro (oh wait, force of habit on that one)…then, Hull.

Am I the only person in the world who thinks Hull have a shot at a mid table finish?

…Yes? Alright, carry on then.

I find it quite ironic that Norwich bounced back from what is probably their worst ever season-opener to thrash Yeovil 4-0 away, while Colchester fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Leyton Orient. Funny old game, etc.

I’m not making many predictions because this season looks too close to call, but I’m going to be pessimistic and say Chelsea will win the league this year, followed by Man U, Arsenal, and Liverpool in that order. Man City, though could finish in literally any position in the table.

Technically, any of the teams could literally finish anywhere in the table.

Well sure, they could - my point, though, is that it would be virtually inconceivable for Arsenal to finish 19th, or Wolves to end up 4th, as I think you realise - or I am being meta-whooshed, somehow?

On a purely personal note I’d be quite happy if City finished in the top 6 and manyoo got relegated.

But that’s just me

I’m just about emerging from the annual depression that is Everton’s summer transfer policy and thinking about next season a bit.

I’m in denial about our transfers - for one of the smallest squads in the prem with a glaring problem on the right flank, we have bought Anton Peterlin from, ahem, Ventura County Fusion and Cody Arnoux from Carolina Dynamo. Did I just type that? Dear God.:(:(:frowning: Saving grace is maybe that Moyes has faced down City over Lescott.

Still, looking on the bright side we had a hellish injuries last year, a miserable start and it still turned into a good season. No one outside of City has really strengthened - Sunderland maybe look to have straightened things out some but are still miles away from being a good side.

I’ll be interested to see how Spurs do - they had a strong second half last time and have a decent squad. Defence is a perennial unknown quantity I guess. Personally I don’t think Redknapp can run a competitive team in the prem under the expectation of winning, he’s never managed it yet. This season would be the one to prove me wrong, as the best of the rest looks quite open.

Manchester City top of the prem.

Get used to it

Everton was thoroughly embarrassed by Arsenal just now, 6-1

My condolences, Busy Scissors.
