UK Snap Election: 8 June 2017

It’s gripping drama! Anyone watching in 1997 when the Returning Officer started 'Michael Denzil Xavier … ’

I remember open windows and in the early hours cheers echoing along the space between my block and the block behind

Yeah, I was at a house party, and we weren’t the only one in the street. Ah, that was a good day :frowning:

Good stuff - thanks.

Thing is, results don’t really start coming in till 3am and even then I think you get more than half the results from 5am onwards. The punishing bit is 11pm-3am dead zone where there’s no news worth having. If you set your alarm for 4am you’d still get the lion’s share of results and the chance of being halfway compos mentis by lunchtime on Friday.

Nice thing about being 7 hours behind the UK. I figure I can get plenty of news and still be in bed by midnight.

The Telegraph have an hour-by-hour schedule of expected announcements of results.

I understand. To follow on from the Portillo remark earlier, Amber Rudd could be in bother around 2am. I also have a personal interest in Battersea which might come in not much after 1am.

Maybe the booze will decide for me …

Angus Robertson will be a tell-tale at a bit after 03:00. And if he goes then Alec Salmond might go too, which we could learn a bit after 04:00. That would be Portillo moment indeed. But those seats might not necessarily be part of a trend - there are local issues at play.

I’ll be happy to watch David Mitchell for those 4 hours, to be honest.

By far the smart thing. It’s not a fit topic for play-by-play announcing.

Go vote, sleep on it, and wait for tomorrow or the day after to learn what horrors your fellow countrymen have visited upon you. There’ll be time aplenty for wailing and gnashing of teeth whether your favorite wins or loses.

Small confession time, I did have a smallish punt on a turnout of 70-75%. As I write it’s still third fav but the odds are shortening, well at least a little …this is the live market:

And the rending of garments! Mustn’t forget the rending of garments.

In the USA, right now C-span doesn’t have UK election coverage listed on their schedule for any of the 3 channels. C-Span 1 and 2 are scheduled for more Comey coverage, while C-Span 3 lists, “Politics and Public Policy Today.” C-span usually picks up the BBC feed for UK elections, so we will see if this changes.

BBC America is showing the movie 300. BBC America is a useless pile of shit.

The Sky news app has live 24/7 coverage on their apps for iPad , Apple TV and iPhone. That’s what I’ll be watching.

I’m sure CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News will have some UK coverage. However, I expect Comey to dominate the news, even if there is a shock in the UK election.

I don’t know if this is unusual or not; 13 hours of 14 into the voting and no one seems to have a clue about national turnout …

Even if somebody did, they couldn’t report it until 10pm.

You wouldn’t know until the ballot boxes have been opened and the total number of votes is known. Until then, all you’ve got is the impressions of however many observers you’ve got as to whether it looks more or fewer than last time.

My point is there are markets on which you can make big money and polling stations with hourly numbers of voters pinned on the walls. You might think someone might use an algorithm from 2015 to extrapolate or do other wizardry but the markets say not.

With the polling stations now closed, here are the results as things stand*.

The Resistance: 0 seats
The Collaborators: 0 seats
The Occupiers: 0 seats

It’s looking pretty even so far.

The Resistance: Liberal Democrats, Scottish National Party, Green Party, SDLP, Sinn Fein
The Collaborators: Vichy Labour, Plaid Cymru, Ulster Unionist
The Occupiers: UKIP, Conservatives, Democratic Unionist Party

OMG.

Network tv combine to predict no overall majority.
If tey are accurate we could even be back again in, say, October.
