Un-beweevable. (Who said that?)

Un-beweevable. (Unbelievable.) This is one of the little catchphrases of my everyday conversation, and I have an idea some TV character made it famous. Perhaps an Erkel type; I’m not at all sure.

Does anyone know of a character who said “Unbeweevable” all the time? It’s driving me nuts. Thanks.

Elmer Fudd?

It is, of course, the Elmer Fudd style of elocution. Elmer would have said it exactly the same way. But that’s not it, I’m afraid.

Could it have been Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles? (It’s been so many years since I’ve seen it, but I remember her talking with a lisp.)

Jar Jar binks?

Possibly Damon Wayans as Mike Tyson?

I’m getting an Elmer Fudd cartoon, too - the one where he’s a mad scientist, and gives the Jekyll/Hyde formula to the dog, and the dog turns all different colors (including polka-dot and plaid) then runs out on the lawn and pants and eats grass. Elmer looks at the audience and says, “Un-be-wee-va-bul!”

Or maybe it’s an old Saturday Night Live routine. Damn memory.

Dang, I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight until somebody answers this defintively!

Maybe you’re thinking of “Inconcievable!”, in which case you’re probably looking for Wallace Shawn.

I’m getting a Stallone vibe…

Babwa Walters?

Gaaaah! This has been driving me crazy since I read this.

If I’m thinking what you’re thinking, it wasn’t Elmer. I’m almost positive it was from some SNL skit years ago. Not from the “classic” years, but from the Billy Crystal-ish era.

But I can’t put my finger on it, and it is going to drive me mad.

Martin said it, in reference to Pam’s hair. You can add it to the list of other insults, like Scary J. Blige, Phony Braxton, and the numerous times he simply barked at her.

Roger Rabbit?

I once heard it said on the Ricki Lake show, when one guest referred to another’s hair by that name. (Don’t look at me like that. My ex-wife liked Ricki.)

From the TV Acres page on Comedians and their Comic Characters, under Billy Crystal I found (among the Fernando, Joe Franklin, etc. characters:

Is this the one you are thinking of?

If not, at least it was the one I was thinking of so now I can sleep in peace.

As soon as I saw the thread title, “Martin” came to mind.

I’m willing to go with the Billy Crystal reference. I never, ever watched Martin, so I think that’s out, for what I’m thinking of.

I was picturing a laugh track after the “unbeweevable”, making me think of 70s- and 80s-era sitcoms, but it might very well have been live audience laughter on SNL.

**Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! **

Yes, Billy Crystal had a character on SNL in the 1980s who would often say: “It’s totally unbeweevable!”

This skits were usually done in monologues.

He used to push his toupée back on his head a bit and pull forward a little, Superman-like curl. He wore a blue bowling shirt and talked with a New York City accent.

One of the quirks of the character:
He would describe running into old friends and acquaintances and would ask" “So, how’s your sister?” and then find out that the sister had died. Or he’d talk about running into a old school friend and asking “so how’s that crazy cousin of yours?” and then find out that the cousin had died.

This was one of Billy Crytal’s characters from the same era as:
Fernando “You look mah-velous! Absolutely mah-valous. It’s better to look good than to feel good, you know what I’m saying?”

And from the same era as “Franky and Johnny” (with Christopher Guest):
“That hurts. Oh, I hate it when that happens!”

Yay! More ignorance fought! You guys rock.
