Un-Italicizing text in Quote Boxes

When a quote box has a “Originally Posted by” tag on it, it makes all the text inside italic. Bold, underlined, and strikethrough text remains, but is also italicized. Is there a tag to keep text regular? In an all-italic block of text, regular lettering is often used in place of italic for emphasized words.

Not per se. Using the [ quote=name ] tag causes the text to appear in italics. But you can mimic this by using a regular quote box, and adding a first line saying “Originally Posted by name” to the quoted text.

Like this:

Which I achieved using the code:

[ quote ]Originally posted by [ b ]garygnu[ /b ]

(remove whitespace inside square brackets to get the actual code)

Nice workaround. I’ll use it if I must.

Personally, I think that italic should use the same tag to begin and end, for this reason. But that sort of out of favor, with the way that the HTML standards are going.

Also, you can do all kinds of cool things using this method:

You get the idea…

This too,

the first one is more useful, letting you link to the full post in context on say page 4 in a 28 page thread (in later versions of vBulletin when you hit “Reply With Quote” it automatically adds a link to the post your quoting).

CMC-fnord!

Learn something new every day if you’re not careful.

I have to admit that the ‘Originally posted by insert non-poster name here’ style bugs the besotted Buddha out of me.

I refuse to learn something new any day. If I did that, I’d get smart. Or more smart. Or something.

I know all I need to know. I know to send you chocolate when I want something. What else is there to know in life??

That would be a great feature to have. Nested quotes, too, I hope.
