Unable to post on Facebook

One of my wife’s cousins has a birthday today. She clicked on the notification ('It’s [cousin]‘s birthday today. Write something to [cousin].’) and a new tab opened up.

  1. Whenever she clicks on any post, a new tab opens up. This has never happened before.
  2. She is unable to type anything into any text box. (i.e., her cousin’s birthday greeting, and comments in other posts.)

One place said to restart her computer. I see her screen is off, and she’s in the shower right now. I don’t know if she restarted and her computer is asleep, or if she shut it down and will restart it when she gets out of the shower.

The same place suggests she’s blocked (‘Facebook Jail’?); but she doesn’t post links often, and the ones she does are things like cat pictures, links to veterans’ crisis lines (her last share), and the occasional non-offensive meme. I don’t see anything on her page that would warrant blocking.

Has anyone else experienced new tabs opening upon clicking posts? Has anyone else been unable to comment on posts?

Is the Ctrl key being held down accidentally in some way?

Not that I know of. And this hasn’t happened before.

ETA: And if I right-click on a post, I get a menu asking what to do (Open in new tab, Open in new window, etc.). For her, new tabs just open up.

ETA 2: She is able to ‘Like’ posts.

That’s a good thought! There have been times when my computer was “malfunctioning” and it turned out that something was pressing on one (or more) of the keys.

Crisis over. She says Facebook is working for her now, after restarting her computer.
