Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3

3 Episodes in, so far it’s really good! Been excited for this for a while.

It snuck up on me and this weekend was a little busy, I’m hoping I can deep-dive into it this week.

3 episodes in too. I lolled at Titus saying to Mike ‘like i said in season 2 episode 3 of our relationship,’
Very funny show.

I liked it better than Season 2 which I thought was kind of hit-and-miss. I enjoyed how each character had their own plot arc instead of typical “wacky plan of the week” stories. And I thought the jokes were funnier, too (on average).

Also, the “Boobs in California” song was genuinely catchy!

Got through 5 or so episodes last night - so nice to have this show back!

The only thing that fell kind of flat for me was the political references. They instantly felt dated; even if they’re only 5 or 6 months old, that’s like 8,000 news cycles ago. I mean, Benghazi? I’ve almost forgotten about that.

Wow, I was thinking this season felt less fresh and less interesting. I’ll finish the season but I’m not really enjoying the show so far. I thought season 1 was great but 2 was a lesser and this season just isn’t working for me.

I binged on the whole season this weekend. I loved it as much as ever. It makes me smile. I didn’t even skip through the intro. I’ve been going around all day singing, “Females are strong as hell!”

I … I didn’t like it that much. I did love some of the jokes. The Lemonade stuff was instant classic, for example. I like where it’s going, and as someone with similar issues as Kimmy, I was dying watching her own unique take on trauma. It’s hilarious and yet really touching and handled well.

But I wasn’t sucked in, unable to turn it off, to look away. I rewatched the first two seasons and they pulled me in more than this one.

I’m not out, not even disappointed exactly. Just not impressed OVERALL.

The main problem with this season is their attempt to make Titus an actual character. The guy is a one-note joke who’s great in small doses but this season spent far too much time repeating the same old crap. (And only one episode with Tina. :frowning: )

Is Tina playing the awkward dancing girl that’s on a lot of the televisions we see throughout the season?

Wait, who’s Tina?

Tina Fey.

Oh yes of course. Not used to being on a first-name basis with her.

It’s been a week since I finished the season and I just got a look for my kid for mindlessly singing “the boobs in California are the greatest boobs of all. . .”

It’s quite catchy!

We’ve been watching this, slowly, over the last couple of weeks. We’re still only about halfway through the season. Most of it is still the same goofy, absurdist comedy it always was, but some of it is not great. The whole Carol Kane (I don’t know what her character’s name is) “Big Naturals” protest thing is painfully unfunny.

Mrs. Mahaloth and I must be the biggest party-poopers in the world. We found S2 to be almost entirely unfunny, having very much enjoyed S1. We enjoyed the long Tina Fey episode(night-time drunk vs. day-time sober episode). Every other episode was pretty much a dud.

Still, we returned for S3. Apprehensive, but hopeful.

We’ve seen 3 episodes of S3 and while there were a few laughs(Titus’ seduction of Laura Dearn was hilarious), most of them have been duds.

It’s like we are now foreigners in a strange land, not laughing at something that should be funny. I feel like only S1 was a good show. It’s not the same since.

I’ve not heard Beyonce’s Lemonade song or seen any videos. The music routine Titus did that was based on that fell totally flat for us. I mean…we smiled slightly at the ridiculousness of it and we love the guy who plays Titus, but things just don’t make us laugh.

Anyway, we will still continue in the hope that it improves.

The song is SO catchy. My wife and I always stick our arms straight out and then bend them down in that awkward way like the guy in the intro. “They alive, dammit! It’s a miracle!”

I thought the season was entertaining. A bit inconsistent, but some very funny bits. Maybe the biggest single laugh was Kimmy’s interpretation of “Ultimate Frisbee”.

That is the genius of The Gregory Brothers (aka Schmoyoho/Songify/Autotune the News.) They are some of the best pop songwriters on the last 50 years - living in a time when being able to write catchy pop tunes is undervalued.
