Clearly, Oicu’s thread was in the wrong forum, but I don’t see what was so egregious or particularly hateful about the thread. There have been stronger worded OPs in Great Debates.
I think it’s perfectly justifiable to close threads posted in what is obviously the wrong forum. Don’t want your thread closed? Read the directions. If you want to rant, go to the pit. If you don’t go to the pit, your rant may be closed. It’s not like the forum descriptions are that hard to understand. Oicu was trying to get a rise out of the people who read his post, and that is not appropriate for the forum in which he posted.
BTW, going to war with another country always means the deaths of millions of innocents, except where the country doesn’t have millions of citizens.
Granted, a non-trivial amount of innocent civilians have been killed in our war against Afghanistan and, earlier, Iraq…but millions?
