UncleBill's new ride

My 1987 300ZX (won it in the war with the ex-wife) had about $1000 worth of work to make it a $900 car. Clearcoat peeling badly, rear brakes crappy, FM radio died, antenna motor busted, tape deck ate any tape within two feet, driver’s window motor almost gone (used a suction cup on the window to raise and lower), leaked water from the driver’s window and hatchback, no windshield washer reservoir or pump, headlining kept on with staples for the last five years, leaked oil from the headgasket onto the alternator (which was cheaper to replace every so often than getting the headgasket done), had a rock through the tread in the right rear tire (fix-a-flat gunk kept it mildly inflated), driver’s seatbelt needed weekly correction in order to retract, and it has 232,000 miles on it. Made nice embarrasing loud groaning noises while backing up. Thank God Dade County dropped the emissions testing requirement or it would STILL have an illegal tag! P.O.S. (Piece of Shit, for those who couldn’t tell already)

But, yesterday morning, UncleBill did two wonderful things!

#1: I found a nice car at CarMax, 1998 Pontiac Firebird, white, 6 cyl, 5 speed, 200hp, power everything, clean as a whistle inside and under the hood, 50k mi, nice headroom (I’m tall), and a smile on my face as I test drove it.

#2: They ACTUALLY approved my credit application! I have spent six years without personal credit cards, scrimping and sacrificing to pay off massive debt ($30k range), after fixing the root of the problem (divorced the bitch!), and as of Saturday morning I had zero debt, now I have car payments, but that is WELL within budget. I have not had a credit app approved in YEARS!

#3: Hi, Opal! Wanna ride in my new car?

Now I not only don’t have to be embarrased about my four wheeled transportation, I have some SWEET wheels, safe, powerful, clean, and damned PRETTY! I couldn’t take the Z to SC next month, too far for the bike on a short weekend, and would have had to rent a car. Now I’m PROUD of my “new” car, confident in it’s safe condition, and can play CD’s or listen to FM radio! And a guy has been waiting to buy this 300XZ P.O.S, he rebuilds them and I’ll let it go for what he thinks it is worth. I would never sell this as a car to drive.

Just had a damned good weekend, and wanted to share. I think getting the credit approval was as good as the car I got.

[sub]even if is does look like compensation for a small penis, I know better.[/sub]

That is all.

Your old car sounds like a complete and utter piece of shit, maybe pricciar would be intersted.

You did everything right except for buy an MR2…but I guess we can forgive you for that…

Congrats on the new ride, and getting your credit together. I won’t comment on which I think is the bigger deal, but congrats again.

Wanna race?

Congratification, UncleBill! I’m partial to Firebirds myself, and lemme say, it’s not “compensation”. Rather, exclaimation, or the portent of things to come.

May your glorious Florida sunset rides be smooth and ever so portentful.

Congratulations UncleBill!

YOU are so adorable.
