Uncomfortable with subject

Not sure if this is the right place, but I’m really uncomfortable about this thread about explosives.

What in particular bothers you? Is it just the mention of explosives, or the discussion of the practical uses/technical stuff?

Notwithstanding hlanelee’s idiotic self-incrimination, the general discussion of the thread seems to be more of the capabilities of explosives, versus how to make or obtain* them.

I can talk about applying for EOD school all day long until I’m blue in the face, and assuming I get in, I may tell you about the cool stuff I get to do in training. That wouldn’t particularly inform you on how to go about making yourself a threat to others. . .

But, something tells me the referees might come along, blow the whislte, and usher all the posters off, citing “Skating on Thin Ice”.

Don’t know. The Zamboni might even come in and clean the thread off the server.

If you’re ever doubtful that a thread topic is appropriate to this messageboard, just use the “Report Post” feature, and tell the mods that way. It’s their call, in the end, whether a post is in contravention of rules or guidelines, but at least you’ve flagged it for their attention.

It really didn’t fit into the categories overtly allowed for reporting to moderators, hence this thread. I don’t think it’s abuse of the message board, I’m just not comfortable with the subject matter in the current climate.

It’s been said before, qts, that the categories listed in the default screen for “Report Post” aren’t the only reasons you can use the feature. Your other option woud be to email the mods – but while you’re doing that, or posting something here, you might as well simply report the post. The mods and admins have said before that they appreciate members using that feature.

qts Reporting threads/posts is fine, but just for future reference - We are told not to actually mention within a thread that we have reported it to a mod. (I think)

Since I’ve posted on this topic before, I’ll just copy/paste my previous response here:

The “Report this post to a moderator” (now “Report bad post”) is a very useful feature. To clarify, the message you see currently, “Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.” is the default message of the new version of the board software. However, please feel free to use it for purposes of reporting posts as you have done in the past (e.g. typos, coding mess ups, title edits, incorrect forum, troll suspicions, etc.)

It is the easiest and most efficient way to reach the moderators. Please do not hesitate to use it for legitimate purposes. A good part of the standard of moderation on these boards (and the moderator response times) is due to the vigilance of our members in reporting incorrect or inappropriate posts.

Please feel free to continue to use the feature as you have done previously.

We are aware that you cannot report your own post in the current version of the software. I’ll have to check with the CR team to see if we can change that, but for the ***ent, feel free to report the post that is immediately above or below your post, and explain yourself in the report.

Well, if you’re confused, Lobsang, there’s little hope for the rest of us.

Hmmm. Must be a glitch. Well, that was to be expected, as the mods wouldn’t joke. Nothing to worry about, though, ***sang. It’s not as if the ***** will ****** our every post. Think about the ******s!
