Under multiple blankets - which method is warmest?

I sleep with a couple of blankets on my bed during the winter, one a regular blanket, and one a comforter. I usually sleep with the lighter blanket on the inside, and the comforter on top.

In my mind, this makes more sense because it seems like it would trap warm air better, and the heavier blanket would keep the light one from falling off. But what’s the straight dope? Is it better for preserving warmth to have a heavy blanket over a light one, or does it matter?

I think the best method is to have at least two bodies under the blanket.

So bring your dog under the covers.

I like to keep my thermostat turned way down at night. I currently use a sleeping bag on my bed. Works great, and in warmer weather I open it up and use it as a bedspread.

Ah, thanks! I didn’t realize somebody else had already pondered what I had pondered!
